A Politico story this week put words in my mouth. Let me be straight with you. I support the Big Beautiful Bill’s tax relief. Completely. The money Washington collects belongs to the people who earned it — and when they give it back, I’ll cheer every time. What the reporter quoted — “stealing from Peter to pay Paul” — was about something else entirely: a debate in the Idaho legislature about whether to repeal Medicaid expansion instead of cutting services for disabled Idahoans. A real and hard conversation. Nothing to do with the federal tax cuts. Yes, balancing our state budget while tax cuts happen at every level is hard work. I support the cuts anyway. The right policy isn’t always the easy one. Idaho can take care of Idaho. I am a lifelong Idahoan, and I have raised six kids in Idaho. I’m also very engaged in the North Idaho Community. I’m not going to let a national reporter tell Idaho what I said when I’m standing right here. Full piece coming.
