Today we officially open the 49th #IFADGoverning Council. We placed young entrepreneurs at the heart of rural transformation, moving from vision to impact. Across rural economies, young women and men are already driving innovation, jobs and growth. Our task is to ensure they have access to finance, markets and the enabling conditions needed to scale. Throughout the day, leaders from governments, international financial institutions and the private sector will explore new frontiers for #IFIs, financing the #FirstMile, and investing in water security as a foundation for resilient #FoodSystems. I look forward to an ambitious @IFAD Governing Council with our 180 members states focused on investment, impact, partnership, and empowering young entrepreneurs.

Grateful to @bread4theworld for championing @IFAD’s mission to secure vital funding in the fight against global hunger. Together, we’re helping rural communities build a more food‑secure future.

Ambassador Blanchard presented her credentials today at @IFAD and held her first meeting with @IFADPresident Lario. She underscored President Trump’s #AmericaFirst assistance priorities and the U.S. commitment to helping rural communities and family farmers achieve greater self-reliance.

Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. @nsitharaman met Mr. Alvaro Lario @IFADPresident, and discussed mutual cooperation for empowering rural communities, enhancing food security, and advancing sustainable agriculture globally. India and @IFAD discussed scaling up investments in natural farming, agro ecology, climate-smart tech, and inclusive value chains.  FM Smt. @nsitharaman reaffirmed India’s strong, four-decade-long partnership with @IFAD — both as a key recipient and contributor — and expressed India’s commitment to deepening engagement through innovative and inclusive rural development strategies. The Union Finance Minister encouraged @IFAD to further support low-income countries through a strengthened client-centric approach, combining financial resources with technical assistance and non-financial services for inclusive rural transformation. FM Smt. @nsitharaman also emphasised India's successful initiatives in poverty reduction, rural infrastructure and #DPI as replicable models in the Global South via South-South Cooperation. @CGIMilan

At #WBGSpringMeetings, I discussed how achieving sustainable development means addressing fragility. The returns are real: every $1 invested now can prevent up to $10 in humanitarian response later. That's why ⅓ of @IFAD investments are in fragile & conflict-affected countries.

Digital connectivity is a lifeline for people in remote areas. @IFAD is proud to join the Mobilizing Access to the Digital Economy Alliance: Africa, a public-private partnership led by @AfDB_Group & @WorldBank. Together, we will unlock opportunities for rural people in Africa.
