@MarkgLcfc That is peak LCFC at the moment. Finally buy a half decent player, pay not an excessive transfer fee, have a decent length contract and still we can sell him for a loss? I'd rather that he had to play reserve football

@dontdelay It's also somewhat of a random number generator in terms of when it might actually boost the state pension. If inflation and wage rise are both 2.5% then no actual real terms increase, if Inflation>wages rises >2.5% again no real wage rises

Another Labour MP turning off comments. Triple lock doesn't just help pensioners keep up with the cost of living (which state pension should always do) It increases state pensions above the rate of inflation. It is designed to increase pensioner incomes. While workers pay for it. And from April, workers will see the state pension age start to increase from 66 to 67. Paying more. While waiting longer.
Anneliese Midgley MP@anneliese_midge

Labour is protecting the Triple Lock - ensuring pensions keep rising so older people can live with dignity and security. This means increased pensions for 1.4 million people across the North West, helping pensioners keep up with the cost of living.

@Conservatives Can any Conservatives explain how house prices wouldn’t increase an equal amount to the stamp duty saved?

@didnjdkdkd @robert_huth Or even simpler, so kind of knockout competition to discover the best team in the entire league(s). We could call it the league cup

@DeborahMeaden @SuellaBraverman Rubbish absolute nonsense, a good relationship is built through years of supporting each other 100% which America have always done the only person to break the partnership is Kier, he couldn’t even defend the airbase of our own in Cyprus we’re a soft touch and Putin sees that.

@WanderCube @kelvmackenzie If the average person declared £19,500 income but spent £300,000 a year on holidays, authorities would likely ask questions. Public figures shouldn’t be immune from scrutiny.

@kelvmackenzie I am completely ambivalent about these characters. They’re not ‘working Royals’ and receive no public funding so why are their holidays or anything else a matter of public concern?

Whenever there’s criticism of Andrew daughters it’s always said in defence that Eugenie,35, is co- founder of the Anti-Slavery Collective which supports sex trafficking victims. Thanks to good work by Times columnist Janice Turner it’s not clear what “support” if any she’s done. Three years ago the charity’s launch dinner ( big affair with even Idris Elba gracing the room) raised almost £1.3million. Today that £1.3million still sits in the bank. Last year’s accounts showed they had spent £95K on “programmes” with £191K on salaries. Shouldn’t it be the other way round? As Ms Turner points out the Charity Commissioner says a charity should keep 3-9 months of running costs in reserve but the rest should be spent as was intended by the donors. Eugenie and her sister married well as they say ( their money-grasping would have mother approved) but since neither are working royals hard to devine why they both retain flats at St James’s and Kensington Palace. Also a puzzle how she goes on holidays costing £300K but has a salary of £19.5K. Clearly it’s an appropriate time to slim down the Monarchy. A good start would be to dump Eugenie and her sister Beatrice .

@cricketwyvern @nick_pope @Nick1webb @simonmedhurst True — on one niche example, we couldn’t unilaterally ban live exports inside the SM. But EU laws weren’t simply imposed — the UK helped write and vote on them. Nearly a decade on, legal divergence has been small and selective. Hardly a day-to-day issue for most people.

To give just one example, in the EU we were not allowed to ban live animal exports. On leaving the EU we introduced a ban. My personal view of particular laws is not that relevant. It is more important that our laws are decided by our elected politicians, not imposed on us by the EU.

UK trade data for 2025 published yesterday. We now have 10 years of data since the EU ref & 5 since we left the customs union. Remember the OBR forecast Brexit would reduce UK trade by 15% (hence their forecast of a 4% hit to productivity). Let’s see how that is working out …

@SyndiTypo @HarrietHarman Small point but "Yes, you can expect those things to be protected." is NOT the same as promising to protect those things. You might EXPECT them to be protected is not the same as we WILL protect those things.

This is so disappointing from you. If you helped her in a personal, professional capacity then that’s not for social media. Secondly, you’re completely lying about what Reform have said. Did you watch the interview? Here are the key points. He makes it very clear that new legislation would ensure the protected characteristics protection under discussion would remain. Victoria Derbyshire said: “You’re going to scrap the Equality Act, but you’re still going to protect, for example, pregnant women from being sacked because they’re pregnant?” Zia Yusuf replied: “That’s exactly what we would do.” Victoria Derbyshire said: “This act means if you have a disability, you’ve got an equal right to a job, equal access to public transport, or practical stuff that most people don’t even think about – doorframes have to be a certain size so people in a wheelchair can literally get in and out of a building. Do you not want to protect those people?” Zia Yusuf replied: “Yes, you can expect those things to be protected.”

@LeicesterFanTV They probably have too, as the Premier League are appealing. Otherwise it looks like LCFC are happy with the punishment and implies that we got off lightly. Consequently, because the Premier League are appealing, LCFC appealing possibly stops us getting a higher penalty

That paper looks at GDP not trade. However, I am not convinced their central estimate of a 8% hit is plausible. That suggests UK GDP growth would have been as high as the US had we stayed in the EU, despite sluggish growth from Germany, France who also stayed in the EU. Their comparison is dominated by the US (e.g. it as a weight of > 60% in their SCM model) but US growth diverged from the UK in recent years not because we left the EU but, amongst other factors, because of their low energy costs.
