Obsessively overanalyzing everything—mostly poker hands and life decisions. Probably 3-betting while debating if I left the stove on.

Poker Wars is 100% self funded by me.
I’ve always felt the poker needs an awesome social strategy show!
I’m shooting my fucking shot.

I created a new Poker Reality Show!!!

@hungryhorsepokr The vast majority under-bluff big on turns and, especially, rivers, so I tend to assume most people aren’t capable until proven otherwise.

i don’t need to see single showdown to start exploiting players at my table.
perfectly aligned chips? they don’t like putting money in. likely passive.
waiting half an orbit for a missed blind instead of posting? likely passive.
complaining the table is too tight? likely passive. (players who run big bluffs don’t mind tight tables)
chips in messy piles everywhere? likely loose and aggressive.
buying in with $20’s? likely a fish.
buying in for the max with chips instead of cash? likely competent.
of course use showdowns to confirm, but i like to start at an unknown table making adjustments right away rather than waiting for showdowns to start making adjustments.

Your friend is playing @WSOP for the first time. He asks you for your best tip to succeed. ONE TIP!
What would you tell him?
Keep the dumb jokes aside, I’m hoping to give him some good shit, I wanna see him do good.

ever heard a poker player complain about having nits at the table?
this makes me giggle. most players want “action games” because if people don’t pay them off, they have no other gear.
good players? they’re just fine having a table full of nits.
the bad news: you don't win many 200bb pots off nits
the good news: you don't need to
how to beat em?
1) overfold everytime they start putting a lot of money into the pot. they're underbluffing, they don't go thinly enough with value. stop hero calling them. fold.
2) fastplay your value. if they're underbluffing, there's zero point in giving them rope. remember, they don't value bet thinly enough so when they start putting money in, their range is way too STRONG. if you have the nuts and they're telling you they have a good hand, why wait? pile.
3) dial back the bluffs on the river. unlike loose players, nits get to the river with a range that's too strong. trying to bluff a strong range off a hand is a losing bet. let it go.
winning 5-10bb at a time isn't sexy, but it’s a low variance print.

@BlackRainPoker Compare to professional Baseball:
•~90%+ of pro players are in the minors making $20k–$40k
•A small % make MLB and earn life-changing money
•It’s one of the most extreme “barbell” income distributions in any profession
Not much different, my friend.

@hungryhorsepokr The “pro” asking for backing is likely not worth a penny risked. Crushers don’t need backing.

our poker stable? made millions.
me and gethen? did not.
our business plan was this: we gave guys money to play poker and coached them for a cut of their profits. standard staking deal.
it took us 2 years to realize we'd have made way more money just playing poker ourselves.
early in a contract, students would be playing $2/5 with low winrates. we'd be coaching them for the equivalent of $20 an hour or less. horrible deal for us.
once they started crushing at $10/20 or $25/50, they barely needed us. we were making $1000+ an hour for our time. horrible deal for them.
high achievers found a way to bail early. low achievers stuck around forever.
eventually we stopped accepting new applicants and asked ourselves a stupid question: what if we just...charged money for coaching? 6d chess, right?
we reached out to everyone who'd recently applied for the stable and offered a 28 day bootcamp instead.
sold out in a day.
but the bootcamp only worked because of the stable. we were making less than we would've playing poker, but we were also learning how to coach, and what was worth coaching.
we never looked back.
p.s. no, we won't stake you.
no, don't ask.
no, you're not the exception.

@Kevmath “Due to the severe expected decline of European players this year, we have decided to abandon the proposed shot clock, as it will no longer be necessary.”

To those who care about these sort of things:
Expect the WSOP to drop some major announcements at 12pm ET (9am Vegas time)
I’ll effort myself to tweet about some details, then I have a doctor’s appointment so will be more radio silent for a time.
I’ll do a Twitter space at 4pm ET (1pm Vegas time) to talk more WSOP stuff and answer questions to the best of my ability

@SelfMadeMastery Yes—if we’re not, the stock market continues to be irrational. Valuations should come down to interest rates, earnings, durability of the company, and other variables don’t matter as much. Valuations are at relatively absurd levels and have been for a few years.

This way probably more fun... You are playing a video game where your goal is to create the best poker player. You have 100 gold coins and have to assign them to the following 5 things. How do you allocate?
1) Studying heads up
2) Having a strong mental game
3) Optimised Nutrition & Fitness
4) Volume
5) ICM understanding
Patrick Leonard 🫡@padspoker
As a professional MTT player rank the following 5 in order of importance. You can say 2/4/5/3/1 for example. 1) Studying heads up 2) Having a mental game coach 3) Optimised Nutrition & Fitness 4) Volume 5) ICM understanding
English

@padspoker 1) 10 (basic understanding)
2) 40
3) 10
4) 40
5) 0 (cash game player to optimize profits vs bankroll/variance)

@Budgetdog_ I used to think I’d live a happier life with more and more money. One day, I realized I had more money than I needed but wasn’t spending enough time with my loved ones. I now care much less about money and instead protect my freedom of time with loved ones—I’m more fulfilled.
