The Second IGAD Regional Teacher Training Workshop (23-25 Sept 2024), kicked off Yesterday in Nairobi. The First Workshop took place in June 2022 in Addis. The Forum is a platform for Learning, Exchange of Experiences & Identifying Good Practices.

The extended deadline to submit admission letters & applications for IGAD Regional Scholarship expires today. IGAD considers Scholarship a means of facilitating inclus access to tertiary edu, esp refugees, returnees & host comm. Interested partners, join us to expand coverage.

As we celebrate two landmark events in Africa: Day of the African Child, 16 June & World Refugee Day, 24 June, we should think of how their rights to education/skills building for a meaningful participation in society can be promoted. @IgadhealthS @Refugees @_AfricanUnion

@FilippoGrandi @Refugees Very alarming, indeed. We are concerned with their safety & education. The international community should focus on their survival, protection of their rights, the means to cope with their changing situations, including addressing their education & skills building needs.

Most of the 700,000 people who have fled the Sudan war to South Sudan have passed through remote, flood-prone Renk, where aid is hard to deliver. About 1000 are crossing daily. Many more will arrive if frontlines move further south in Sudan. The insanity of this war must end!

We R working with relevant partners to implement the recently adopted IGAD Regional Qualifications Framework. Helping MS to develop comprehensive NQF is one of the tasks already underway. We invite more partners to work with us or MS in this endeavor. @IgadhealthS @UNESCO

The IGAD Education (HESAD) & ICPALD Team concluded a successful mission at University of Juba in connection with a joint Project on Entrepreneurship & Innovation Development for Fragility Reduction supported by AfDB. This pilot Project targets youth in 3 Universities of IGAD MS.

Looking forward to a promising engagement in Tokyo, Japan, aimed at facilitating discussions to strengthen the partnership between IGAD and the Government of Japan. Also had the privilege of hosting the IGAD-Japan-based ambassadors, followed by a meeting with esteemed Japanese professors from the University of Tokyo. These interactions provided valuable insights into our upcoming two-day engagement in Japan and explored opportunities for enhanced collaboration.

Why Regional approach to Edu, Sc, Tech & Innov matters? Edu at all levels is a Colllab enterprise. Regional institutions are repositories of knowledge. Knowledge prospers by sharing. Regional approach to ESTI is imperative as it facilitates co-learning, sharing & mutual devt.

Why a Regional Teacher Training? We believe we may not do everything in Teachers Professional Development. But besides formulating policies, we often go into doing the actual training, to show that with dedicated partners, like GIZ, we can also do it. That's Leading-by-Example.

Adoption of the IGAD Regional Qualifications Framework, done at the end of the 4th IGAD Minist Conf. of Edu on 30 May 2024, is a huge milestone in MS Cooperation on Edu, Sc, Tech & Innov. It provides opportunity for Regional Integration thru Edu. @IgadhealthS @UNESCO @Refugees
