In 2021 we joined an amicus brief in support of women working at the Dallas County Jail. On 8/18, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals overruled the decision made in Hamilton v. Dallas County, as the scheduling policy illegally discriminated against employees based on sex.

Afghanistan's Women Protester Movements Coalition Press Release: Remarks of Amina J. Mohammed the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General on Taliban Recognition 04.19.2023 On April 17, in a convening at Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed suggested that the UN would hold a meeting to discuss recognition of the Taliban. These remarks come as the Taliban are implementing gender apartheid in Afghanistan and have issued some 40 formal and informal decrees to erase women from society. Women in Afghanistan are banned from education, employment, and free movement. Their access to most basic services such as healthcare is hindered by the Taliban’s male minder policy. Under Taliban rule, marginalized ethnic and religious groups are facing forced displacement, harassment, torture, and killing. Across the country, people are dealing with hunger and poverty. Taliban have once again turned Afghanistan into a safe haven for terrorists and criminals. Recognition of the Taliban is not only a death sentence for the women of Afghanistan that will only lead to further crisis, but it also undermines the credibility of the UN as an entity responsible for protecting and promoting human rights. We members of Afghanistan's Women Protester Movements Coalition are extremely concerned about the stance of Amina J. Mohammed and ask her for clarity about her remarks. We warn the UN about the consequences of considering recognition of a group that has taken over the country by force. Furthermore, we demand Secretary-General António Guterres retract the statement made by Amina J. Mohammed and issue a statement renouncing it. We once again insist that any unconditional engagement with the Taliban will not lead to desirable outcomes for the international community or the people of Afghanistan. It will only lead to emboldening the Taliban to commit more human rights violations. The international community must not ignore the resistance of the people of Afghanistan, especially the civic resistance of the women of Afghanistan to the Taliban’s brutality. We expect the United Nations to firmly pressure the Taliban to accept the demands and the values of the people of Afghanistan. The United Nations has a moral duty to stand with the women of Afghanistan in their demand for their internationally guaranteed human rights. End #نان_کار_آزادی
