Ken Akamatsu — creator of Love Hina and Negima! — won a seat in the House of Councillors in 2022 on a platform of protecting creative freedom. He continues to push back against overseas censorship pressures in 2026. In March, Senators Ken Akamatsu and Taro Yamada publicly clarified that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s government is not interested in censoring the internet under the excuse of “protecting children.” It's great to see Japan fighting back against Western censorship pressure!

I know most of you, my dear followers, are more than sick of this discourse, but I'm sorry. I can't not bring this one up too. The incessantness with which this specific argument is invoked is the one detail that actually just confuses me. Like, are they so deep into the characterization of red as just edgy teenagers that they can't possibly imagine a parent that opposes them? Whatever kind of person they think reds are, is it really so hard to imagine that kind of person aging, having children and not changing? Because I assure you, I told my actual, not a hypothetical person, mom about this shit (actually talking to your parents about things. Imagine that.), and her response was, "Well, that sounds stupid. Red obviously."

Would you support a Maternity Draft as part of a program of Reproductive Conscription to stave off collapsing birth rates? ARGUMENT: Any woman who was unmarried or not already a two time parent, would be required to sign up to give birth to a child with a father of the State's choosing, screened from among the best of all donors. Mothers would be provided a stipend and benefits to cover the child's care until adulthood or could place the child up for adoption. She would be required to give birth at least four children to complete her term of service. All medical, nutritional, and other concerns would be paid for by the state while she was pregnant.

No, the blues are talking past everyone including themselves and insisting the reds are participating in that problem to further reinforce their own world view. They categorically refuse to even acknowledge the argument that their impulses are not the foundation of society and that thus the outcome doesn't prove anything they think it does. Their entire self-conception requires any explanation to include "blue virtuous red psychopath." The idea that that's not true threatens them more than death.

Yeah except that's not the argument being made for red, nor is their any burden on said argument to predict shit. The assertion has nothing to do with what anyone else actually will pick in any single instantiation of the test. It is that, definitionally, blue is a bet with death as the loss outcome and nothing that red doesn't already always give you as the win outcome. No amount of winning a bet on blue will change the fact that you made a bet with a moral high horse as the only unique payoff. There wouldn't even be an actual, quantifiable benefit to picking blue even if hypothetical magic allowed you to predict with certainty that enough people will pick blue because red already gives you that without complication and at zero cost, realized or otherwise. That's the actual argument.

Having empathy is a strength, but being unequally controlled by empathy over your mind's other faculties is a weakness, and weaponizing empathy as a rhetorical manipulation tactic is an evil. The likelihood someone is doing one of the latter two is directly proportional to how much time they spend talking about empathy instead of simply acting on whichever good they believe in.

That does make the case for blue more reasonable if we're taking the hypothetical completely literally, like we imagine a wizard making this exact scenario play out. But I'd argue that also just makes the thought experiment an even poorer analogy to anything real than it already is.

The only reasonable take I have heard argued in favor of blue is the scenario that everyone in the world has to make the choice including infants that wouldnt understand the question, people in semi vegetative states, or individuals who are depressed and want to die, and therefore it would be argued that all the sane and rational people should band together and save everyone who is non-compos mentis, has a death wish, or is functionally unable to understand the question being asked.
