Even back in 2013, I was a massive movie buff. By then, I’d already explored films in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Korean, Italian, Japanese, German, Spanish, Chinese but not a single Kannada film. It’s funny considering it's a South Indian language, very close to Tamil & I love the language. Back then, during the torrentz era, when you could download any movie you wanted with subtitles & film forums were buzzing, I don’t remember anyone recommending a Kannada movie. That changed with Lucia. In past last decade, I’ve watched Lucia, U-Turn, Kaavaludaari, Avane Srimannarayana, Rangitaranga, Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana, KGF Chapter 1 & 2, Kantara, Kantara Chapter 1, Birbal, Shivaji Surathkal, Sapta Sagaradaache Ello: Side A & B, 777 Charlie, Tatsama Tadbhava (with Ulidavaru Kandante & Kirik Party on watchlist). What a journey it’s been! Pawan Kumar, Prashanth Neel, Hemanth Rao, Rakshit Shetty, Rishab Shetty, Raj Shetty, Yash, Rukmini along with the musical trio of Ravi Basrur, Charan Raj & Ajaneesh have collectively redefined the identity of Kannada cinema, making the world cine community sit up & take notice, which is fabulous to see. Top quality storytelling, world class craft, rooted emotion! Kannada cinema is truly in its golden era!👌

#Kantara - FORCED PREQUEL RATING - ⭐️⭐️ #KantaraChapter1 feels like a forced prequel that really didn’t need to be made. And if it had to be made, it should have been a deeply rooted story like the original, not one inspired by Baahubali and other period films. The first half is painfully slow and boring , you might actually need an espresso to stay awake. Even the interval block lacks any real punch. The second half is somewhat better, with two standout moments. The first is when Rishab embodies Guliga Devta but the problem is we’ve already witnessed this exact sequence in Kantara. It feels copy-pasted, and you don’t get goosebumps this time because you’ve already experienced it before. The climax introduces an angle with Maa Chamunda Devi, which might leave the audience mildly satisfied. #RishabShetty’s acting is decent but his direction is quite weak. The story and screenplay lack any real depth, while the twists and turns are completely predictable. The film gives the impression of being made solely to cash in on the Kantara franchise rather than out of creative necessity. There are no song nor the devotional essence and emotional intensity that made Kantara special. Even the so-called highlights are directly lifted from the original. The VFX and cinematography are quite good but the dialogues are quite cringe-worthy. Gulshan Devaiah’s entire subplot is outright ridiculous . Overall, Kantara Chapter 1 is a forced prequel that fails to elevate the legacy of Kantara. In Hindi, the film’s business is likely to be strictly average. #KantaraChapter1Review

@Kannada_BO Just watched it today and really shocked every top reviewer is bought out! Only public review matters!! #Pushpa2 only action blocks and AA are good, rest the movie is really very bad!     If there was any lesser known star for this movie, it would've faced such backlash!
