@HedgeEconomist Solid point. I've always hate when people say you own the asset as it's onchain. Technically it's true but in reality all those stuff turns junk right when the dev say "We ran out of budget."

You don't own your game assets if the server can disappear tomorrow. You don't own your virtual land if the company controls the world state. Real ownership requires the context itself to be onchain. That's true property rights.

@HedgeEconomist Play and earn exist long before web3 even came. Most projects just built whatever they can with Unity then mindlessly slap a token + NFT to a game and hope that it will work. So little thought was put in an economy of these games.

I disagree with the statement that there's no place for earning within fun. For example: I have fun making video games and I also get paid to do it. Fun and finance can coexist, and in our space making money is a core element of the fun. The fundamental issue comes from single player distributions of new tokens and resources without any sort of competition between players for said assets. This will always be unsustainable and lead to perverse incentives. If players have to compete in an open economy with real risk, then competitive equilibriums can be created similar to real economies. Earnings become tied to providing value to other players or doing some sort of work for the game. Faucets should not be free tokens handed away to players for doing menial tasks or staking, etc, but a fundamental mechanic that helps balance the economy of resources and other assets via competition. In this way the players are doing a job that provides value to the entire ecosystem and are being rewarded accurately for it. You can sort of think of it like Bitcoin miners securing the network. Rewards are distributed periodically, via competition, while doing valuable work for the ecosystem. However, I do agree P2E is a dumb moniker. Earning is just a byproduct of having a real economy.
