This unassuming bench in Bury St Edmunds is actually made out of the wing of a B-17 bomber. It sits in the John Appleby Rose Garden in the Abbey Gardens, a memorial to the Americans of the Mighty Eighth who died flying from Suffolk's airfields. The garden is named after Tech Sgt John Appleby of the 487th Bomb Group at Lavenham, who fell in love with the county and wrote the book Suffolk Summer in 1948. He gave the copyright to the town council so royalties would maintain this place as a permanent memorial.

Departing from the North Side Terminal by BOAC Comet (& Thames Trader bus!) at London Airport (1959). A drab, easily missed collection of buildings on the A4 Bath Rd, North Side was the portal for transatlantic/long haul until the Oceanic Building (now T3) opened in 1961.

On our route during our morning walkies this is the view at one point..It is one of my favourite views.. Godrevy lighthouse framed in the dunes with waves breaking over the deadly "Stones Reef" a mile out at sea from the light.

@Cac76972535 Yes I am afraid so..Don't come to Cornwall from mid July to early September..But this is the worse I have ever seen it..It is a large carpark..But visitors parked double in the access between parking rows and at the entry and exit way, just leaving a tiny gap between bollards.

Total mayhem...I was going to take Amber for a walk on the beach early afternoon...Three car parks full..Cars Parked on roadway grass verge...The main CCC car park at Sunset Surf blocked in and out, cars just abandoned in the roadway.. 20 minuets just to turn around!!.. madness.

5 years ago, the world was an uncertain mess, in the midst of lockdowns... and I decided to walk out on my career in Operations... Swapping my pristine suits for greasy Hi Viz, my stand up desk for the control desk of a 66, and the 9-5 for well, the anytime! (1/2)
