Not @CliveMyrieBBC at @localcouncilnet but @ShappiKhorsandi! And we're having a good laugh, even in current circumstances.

Well, it was chicken for lunch so pretty much guaranteed to be beef for dinner at @localcouncilnet conference. Looking forward to hearing from @CliveMyrieBBC later if he has managed to extricate himself from the war in the Middle East 😬

English
@localcouncilnet has its new logo above the main lectern. That looks better! Farewell, DCN - it has been a blast!

@AdamCSharp Thanks for sharing. And I can even make out some words that are similar to #cymraeg diabhal:diafol, uffern:Ifrinn, both words derived from Latin of course.

"For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance". Before a roadmap for fiscal devolution for mayors, can we have a timeline for mayors in areas that don't already have them? 🤷♂️ bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… #devolution @themjcouk @lgcplus

@AlexNowrasteh Don't tell me it was written and published in the USA 😬😉

Might @BarristerSecret or an employment specialist comment? Holding two jobs - even full time ones - is not necessarily fraudulent. Not good for your health (2 F/T jobs in #localgovt = 74hrs when there are 168hrs/week). bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@RoryStewartUK And don't forget need for fair representation for each country of the UK and each region in England, based on where people live. Disproportionate number of their Lordships live in London and S E England, one suspects.

The hereditary were the last link to historical meaning of the chamber - and idea of a House of “Lords”. The last peers were also some of the most hard-working, public spirited and committed members - particular on non-urban issues. Their removal needs now to lead to a much more fundamental rethink of the composition of the House - appointments focused on merit and independence not political patronage.

News: the Hereditary Peers Bill has tonight finally passed the Lords, ending centuries of tradition. Expect a handful of life peerages for a smattering of hereds.

@theepicmap Think you've ignored Greek in the southern part of Cyprus, if Greece is shown as red. And you've ignored minority languages that have official status, as others have pointed out (Basque, Welsh, Irish etc.)

@BBCWales v sad story. Worth checking the stats/interpretation of them. Seem to be c.50 deaths in water in Wales each year but that includes coastal waters. You need the figures for rivers & lakes. nationalwatersafety.org.uk/media/1445/wai… bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Chancellor's speech, Tuesday. Are my family and I better able to avoid a grammatical howler that the clever and well-educated people at @hmtreasury who wrote the speech, and a Chancellor educated at @UniofOxford who read it, didn't notice? 🤦
