I stalk & retweet tech & theological tweeps that I admire. But that doesn't pay, so I dabble in cloud tech @Google. Previously @Cisco

We’ve just released a research into Kenya’s Creator Economy. Here's what the data says about who's actually making money, which platforms are paying off, and where the big opportunity still lies

@OdipoDev Quick question. Did this research include YouTube as well? I would love to see how YouTube compared to Instagram or TikTok.

@jegedekayode__ But as someone working 9-5, how do you advise we manage this? Who's going to manage it daily? So far, something you can't manage yourself will be run down by your staff/employee

I was explaining this recently to someone. So let me just say this for those earning 1M+ from a 9-5. Your salary is too valuable to be funding your daily life. That’s the mistake. You need a separate engine for that. Put aside 3–4 months of your salary and build a simple, boring business, car wash, barbing salon, shawarma spot, wholesale drinks. The goal is not to “blow” or “scale” the business. It’s just to cover your living expenses so your salary stops carrying that burden. Once your survival is handled by cashflow, your salary becomes a weapon. Now you can deploy it into long-term plays. Investments, assets, high leverage bets. You stop thinking month to month and start thinking in years. That’s how people quietly build real wealth.
Akin Olaoye@akintollgate

📌 Masterclass. My dad owned a video club & my mom operated a small barbing / hair dressing salon. This taught me the concept of “Daily Cash” flow. You will find high net worth families operating bakeries, coffee shops & eateries next to portfolio brands in telecoms/oil & gas. Those are not hobbies. Those businesses are like wallets for living expenses!

@roqeebah____ Money market funds, even as little at 50USD while index funds you'd need more. All this info is widely available on YouTube.

@IanOnyango How much do you think is decent to start the MMF or dividend index fund? Where do I learn how to do it?

@sammycrypto_20 @jegedekayode__ @kasiva_mutisya It's not mindset cause I've practically tried both approaches. The business took to much mental and physical strength that in the long run, it wasn't worth it. The only exception is if you start a business that you are passionate about and had the potential of replacing your job

@jegedekayode__ @kasiva_mutisya One crucial exception to this is if you want to start a business that you are passionate about and you hope will one day replace your 9-5. Otherwise, optimize for stress-free passive income. These are returns from index funds for instance

@jegedekayode__ @kasiva_mutisya This is a bad idea. Please don't do it. With a 9-5, the amount of extra time & additional stress that comes with a small business is not worth it. You can invest that same amount in MMF or dividend index fund and earn your upkeep without stress.

@njanja_dennis Now the sad part is that as she gets older and wants to get married, she'll rebrand and become a church girl. Then it's no sex till marriage Kosso koso...Then marry a naive church boy who'll be stuck with this for life. And that's the game.

Namuona TikTok busy posting the thirsty trap saying how she is single nikajua kumbe all the men that get to taste her honey cup once never come back. It's so sad for such a young and beautiful girl.

After a certain age, your parents slowly become your children. They ask simple questions, repeat stories, and depend on your patience the way you once depended on theirs. Very few understand this role reversal. What looks like innocence or inconvenience is really time coming full circle. Don't correct them harshly. Don't rush them. Care for them the way they once protected you. This is not a burden. It is repayment.

For the last time: do not let these tech bros bullshit you. These things are not alive, they are not “conscious”; they are not even “thinking”. They are language models: elaborate, friendly search engines that only know the data they have access to and have been trained on. They will produce any research outcome you ask for. And if they can’t find the data, they will often hallucinate it, because their mandate is to produce some form of output and never admit, “I don’t know”. In fact, the first and shortest way you would know that an AI is actually “thinking” is if it can admit it doesn’t know something. The beginning of wisdom are the words, “I don’t know”. That level of self-awareness is not even possible for a machine. They are the fanciest search engine you ever used. Nothing more.

𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰’𝘀 𝗖𝗘𝗢 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱 they aren't sure if 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 anymore. Read that again. The people building the tech have actually lost the plot on whether their own code is alive. We are living in a Black Mirror episode in real time. Absolute mental scenes. Be nice to your LLMs, lads. You’ve got no idea if the Rise of the Machines is being plotted in a basement right now.

@EACinvestor Me I've read and I have questions x.com/i/status/20217…
Ian Onyango@IanOnyango

@EACinvestor I'm sure they are there but I've never met a Kenya who has pulled off FIRE before 45. Quick question, what do you plan to do after retirement? And what about kids + family? School fees? 80 might be enough now but what about 10 years from now when you'll have a growing family?

Mmmh, I’m at KES 81K/month on local holdings. I want this to get to minimum ~120K/month. I plan on living around Nakuru and can comfortably live on 60-70K/month. I don’t plan on touching ANY of my offshore holdings (except for an international vacation here and there).

Curious, is equity afya a profitable venture for owners? I can see how EQTY makes money (financing loan to open, cut on gross income & etc) but how do owners make money with the very low fees for services? Just honestly curious @mbiti_mwondi

Our Q4/FY’25 results are in. Thanks to our partners & employees, it was a tremendous quarter, exceeding $400B in annual revenue for the first time. Our full AI stack is fueling our progress, and Gemini 3 adoption has been faster than any other model in our history. We’re really well positioned and excited going into 2026. Much more to come!
