This is what they got delivered to them FREE OF CHARGE.
They could go out and BUY more food with their own money. And most did. It's like getting your needs met without paying a dime and having extra money to buy whatever you WANT to add on top of that.

Can someone plead explain why so many people still take socialism seriously? It has always failed badly, every single time leading to bitter misery and poverty. No exceptions. Why is it still so popular? Don’t people pay attention in history classes?

We’re negotiating a free trade deal with India. This will be a game changer for Canadian workers and businesses — unlocking a massive new market.
We’re working fast — I met Minister @PiyushGoyal to review our progress so far and explore the opportunities ahead for both our countries in energy, agri-food, tech, and education.

Everyone needs to calm down over this one.
There's some important context missing, here. This would generally only happen in Canada if someone has expressed to a psychiatrist that they intend to harm themselves or someone else. If that doctor isn't able to have them detained at the time, they refer it to the police.
It sounds like they have been trying to get in contact with him for this reason. They couldn't find him when they went looking for him, so there was most likely a BOLO issued. His plate got picked up and the officer would have had a note to detain him.
Without the missing context, though, it's difficult to say, but it seems like this is the most likely scenario.
So, no, police aren't just pulling people over and then arbitrarily taking them off to psych wards.

I have not seen anybody talking about what’s going on in Canada right now. This man was pulled over and told by police that he had to come with them because a psychiatrist labeled him “certifiable.” No paperwork, no rule of law, just a doctor saying that if he didn’t come with him right then and there that he would be arrested. The fact that a government could do this is terrifying.

What Alberta Separatism would actually look like even if it was possible constitutionally (which it isn’t):
1. Oil sands would almost entirely remain in Canada along with all Treaty 8 territory. I would love for someone to explain how any other result is even possible (it isn’t).
2. Upwards of 20 percent of the population would leave immediately, most of these being educated professionals from urban/suburban areas.
3. The remaining “Albertans” would be left to scratch together a military, a pension system, a diplomatic settlement ice and international agreements, and thousands other things the federal government already does and pays for.
4. Chaos, cronyism, and fighting over the scraps. Everyone who can leave will leave.
5. Then would come the clambering to return to the edenic garden of Canada and people pretending to have never supported separation in the first place.

The golden years of AirBNB were a temporary arbitrage on depreciation.
There was a universe of beautiful well-maintained properties and hosts that had not been worn down by short term guests.
And the AirBNB hosts didn’t properly estimate the cost of depreciation to maintain that standard, so costs were irrationally low
That era fundamentally cant return, it was a temporary arbitrage opportunity
There was once a supply of fairly pristine unused space and now there’s not
If a space does manage to hit the 2014 standard, it must charge a lot more to fight depreciation
And at that point a hotel is generally better

@GregClarkAB If it was just a mouse sure, unfortunately the house is a crack den full of assorted parasites. Tearing it down is the only viable option.
English

@kbessey @teletonic @MstrHardpoint The market is solving itself. That's why Canada has a productivity problem. A rentseeker economy full of middlemen and assorted parasites that stifle any healthy growth. Record brain drain. CAD turning into toilet paper. The resource sector in an environmentalist stranglehold.
English

@teletonic @IanSeanDesign @MstrHardpoint The market solves all.
Just poking fun at the reply. Too many people think its such a simple thing to solve, when its clear they have near 0 understanding.

BC landlords should be allowed to charge double rent when a tenant refuses to pay and forces the landlord to go through arbitration.
Right now, tenants can drag the process out while the landlord carries the mortgage, taxes, insurance, repairs, and legal costs.
There needs to be a real penalty for abusing the system.
English

@familytrees4 @sabreappraisal @MelissaLMRogers @TELUSsupport My unlimited plan is $35. I got it 15 years ago. Still too expensive imo.
English

I was chatting with my friend in Florida, they pay $25 a month for their unlimited cellphone plan. WHAT
I’m paying over $100 a month with @TELUSsupport in Canada 🤯
Canadians are getting screwed big time
English

@JohnLui13306545 @MstrHardpoint Government sanctioned companies could be created to provide some form of short term rentals. People are encouraged to get a mortgage in the system I propose. Almost everyone would be a home owner, rates and prices would be low. The extra cash would fuel the economy.
English

@IanSeanDesign @MstrHardpoint Who is going to build units for rent if there is no return? Gov downloaded housing problem to the market. The market reacted fast bcuz of $.
English

@sabreappraisal @MelissaLMRogers @TELUSsupport Unlimited is the 1st world standard. Only Cucknadians are charged as if GB was some scarce resource.
English

@JohnLui13306545 @MstrHardpoint The incentive is there. If you build a house you can still sell it. The only difference is, the economy prospers because rentseekers and middlemen don't suck out the value.
English

@IanSeanDesign @MstrHardpoint Real dumb reasoning. Less incentive to build more housing if less landlords
English

@FraserVal_girl @JasonBugra I know this is a difficult concept for a tard like you to understand but you can own and live in your own home without being a landlord.
English

@IanSeanDesign @JasonBugra I guess you want to pay even higher rents while complaining about price gouging by greedy landlords. It should be illegal to be this stupid.
English

@t_rkish @JasonBugra I have a mortgage. You can be a home owner without being a landlord, idiot. Landlords add zero value to the economy. Parasites and leeches.
English

@IanSeanDesign @JasonBugra Ok renter.
Willing to bet you’re a problem tenant.
English

@surphs__upp @JasonBugra I have a mortgage, thank you very much. You can be against landlording and be a home owner. Difficult concept for a retard like you.
English

@IanSeanDesign @JasonBugra Don’t want to pay rent? Then don’t sign a contract saying you will
Deadbeat
English

@MstrHardpoint And why would fewer homes be built? Developers can still sell them. Government housing? That's a symptom of a failed economy. Sweden? I assume you mean Switzerland. You obviously also need to end mass immigration or it won't work. That's another policy Canada got wrong.
English

@IanSeanDesign It wouldn’t be viable in Canada. If we did implement their system we would have fewer homes being built and longer wait times to get into government housing.
Swedens model creates affordability for existing tenants but scarcity for new people entering
English

@JasonBugra Did we learn anything? Time to look for a different job maybe.

A BC tenant filed a $30,000+ claim against us at the Tenancy Branch.
What followed:
4 separate hearings
200+ pages of evidence
50+ hours of prep
Months of stress
Public attacks online
Final award?
$200…
No penalty for the exaggerated claim.
No compensation for the time wasted.
No accountability for abusing the process.
Bad landlords should be held accountable. No question.
But tenants who abuse the system should face consequences too.
BC tenancy laws need balance.
Fairness cannot only go one way…
