@SeventyThp Slander? Your anarchist heroes at CHAZ/CHOP shot an unarmed black teen dead and then covered it up so none of the people who shot him would be held responsible! npr.org/2026/06/14/nx-….

@9999XP What do you think materialists believe in?

@Idkfu69 farfetched concept. We all have ideas every day, they influence how we see the world and interact with them. And we all have those moments when we think we were the first to think of something and then learn that someone else already came up with it. Therefore they are universal.

@9999XP Yeah ik this, I took a Philo101 class in college. Plato's Forms sound a lot like religious ideas. There’s a perfect, invisible, unchanging reality beyond the physical world, and everything we see around us is just an imperfect copy of it? Sounds like how Christians view heaven.

@9999XP Ok, but where does this essence come from? How do you know it's their essence? You could just as easily argue that these things mean what they do because society has conditioned us to accept those words and definitions.

@Idkfu69 It's essence does. Chair is "something to sit on". Democracy is "majority rule through voting" It can be a lot more complicated, but we are on twitter.

@9999XP Ok? But what proof do you have to support your idea?

@9999XP Then what defines the idea if not its historical conditions?

@Idkfu69 @_Do0p @boguswaves1 The essence of the idea of veganism is "don't eat animal products" anyone who follows these principles is a vegan. Their specific reasons don't matter. Anarchisms essence is "rejection of hierarchy". Anyone who follows it, even an alien in another galaxy, is an anarchist.

@9999XP @MattCrossin @_Do0p @boguswaves1 They can be developed anywhere and anytime, I don’t think anyone is denying that. But it’s a historical fact, that socialism and anarchism were developed in Europe.

@MattCrossin @Idkfu69 @_Do0p @boguswaves1 Socialism and Anarchism can be developed anywhere anytime, they are universal ideas and don't harken back to a specific thinker like Marxism. The reason we use european terms for them and associate them with europe is because of eurocentrism.

@9999XP @_Do0p @boguswaves1 “I never said that it can't relate to those.” I don’t think anyone said you did. The problem is you’re imposing this label on early human societies when anarchism is a modern political philosophy and applying the label to the former, which lacked those ideas, risks conflating

@9999XP @_Do0p @boguswaves1 That’s not a good comparison because veganism is generally a conscious lifestyle choice today, whereas someone in 3000 BC had to eat whatever was available in their environment. If they didn't consume animal products, that would likely reflect a lack of access more than anything.

@9999XP @_Do0p @boguswaves1 Bro, this is just a semantics argument. The "anarchism" used today is the modern equivalent of the "anarchy" those philosophers invoked. The point is you’re applying the term anarchism to early human societies when they were fundamentally different from what anarchists advocate

@Idkfu69 @_Do0p @boguswaves1 The name "anarchism". William Godwin didn't call himself an anarchist. Bakunin didn't use it for most of his life. Proudhon popularized it from its greek origins, but it took time to become ubiquitous.

@9999XP @_Do0p @boguswaves1 It's not being “reduced” to "those people." It's conjoined with worker movements and organizations because that's where anarchism originated.

@Idkfu69 @_Do0p @boguswaves1 What I mean is that the current specific movement of anarchism of course strongly relates to those european thinkers, but reducing all anti-hierarchy thinking (for which anarchism is the general term) to those people flattens the idea and its historical significance.

@Idkfu69 @_Do0p @boguswaves1 The essence of anarchism as we use the word today is being non-hierarchical. If someone relates to the 19th-century european movement of anarchism (which didn't even use that name for decades) is another story of course.

@9999XP @_Do0p @boguswaves1 You shouldn’t impose the anarchist label on societies that don’t identify that way. Would you classify the Zapatistas as anarchists when they have made it abundantly clear they don’t like being called that?

@9999XP @_Do0p @boguswaves1 Depends on what the thing is. Early humans lived in ways that worked for their environment and needs. Some lived in a proto-egalitarian way. Some lived with hierarchies. But it wasn’t anarchist because the principles anarchists uphold today didn’t exist back then.

@Idkfu69 @_Do0p @boguswaves1 So things only start existing once someone gives them a name and writes them down in a book? How do you think the first humans lived or how do most animals live? Do you need a fully formed ideology a smart person wrote down to live a certain way?

@9999XP @_Do0p @boguswaves1 No it isn’t. It’s an ideology that came about in 19th century Europe during the Industrial Revolution.
