After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. Let’s be very clear: the circus of so-called “journalists” flooding into our city right now is not helpful, and they know it. Nothing about what they’re doing is assisting the Guthrie family. I can guarantee you the family is not asking these individuals to take matters into their own hands, speculate publicly, or turn this into online entertainment. What they are asking for is simple: send in legitimate tips. That’s it. Instead, we have people who have never stepped foot in our area asking strangers online to verify street names, saying Marana is in Tucson and Rio Rico is the southside. We have unrelated videos of random individuals being posted, businesses being put out there and home addresses of REAL people with no way of knowing they are being blamed online and pushed as national lies just to generate headlines. That is not journalism. Real journalists verify before they publish. They don’t throw out rumors, half-truths, and unverified claims just to stay relevant. None of this is normal. None of it is appreciated. If you can’t even spell the name of our city correctly, if you’re posting misinformation, and if your background includes defamation issues and conspiracy-driven content, then yes you can absolutely sit this one out. Do not ask me to be grateful that you’re “bringing business” or “revenue” to our community. Turning someone’s fear and pain into clicks is not economic development it’s exploitation. It’s not real journalism. It’s grifting. And it’s creepy. We all want Nancy home safe. Every single one of us. But this performance for likes, followers, and engagement is not helping. It’s noise.
