Did the NCAA make the right decision to expand the tournament? 🏀

Dan Gavitt: "I know there's not excitement in some corners of the media and fan base, but our schools and conferences are saying 'we need this.' Things are changing, and this is being responsive to their needs while keeping what's special about March Madness special."

I’m not ecstatic with NCAA tourney going to 76. But it was also a foregone conclusion for past year or so. Will it be as clean and inclusive? Nope. But it’ll still be great. I’m also tired of some of the CBB media that won’t stop whining and complaining about the change.

@ESPNLunardi The first thing I noticed is that I’m really not that interested in watching this trash anymore. Across sports the never ending chasing of money and watering down of the product is sad, and stupid. But sure. Explain as much as you want.

espn.com/espn/feature/s… 🏀🏀 The first thing you notice about a 76-team bracket is how much it looks like a 64- or 68-team bracket. Sure, a few seed lines are a little crowded, but the guts of the thing -- and the essence of the NCAA tournament itself -- are unchanged. We'll have the same symmetry as always by the first Thursday of the tournament, and a lot more good than bad will have transpired by then. In particular, four more single-bid conferences will have won a tournament game (and generated essential revenue for their members). Even better, six of the weakest 12 at-large teams -- formerly the "Last Four In," "First Four Out" and "Next Four Out" -- will have earned their way into the main bracket on the court instead of in the committee room. There will be unintended consequences, of course: namely, too many middling major conference entries. But the same thing was said in 1975 when at-large bids were first introduced. The world didn't end then, and it won't end now. It might even be better.

@BoilersBeyond You are not alone. I think it’s absolutely fantastic that Indiana stood against the insanity that thinks all levels of basketball are supposed to be the NBA. There is no stall ball that actually happens at the HS level anyway.

@Illinoiswill @RaphealDavis3 What a terrible take. If they care about "values" so much, then why not get rid of the 3 point line, make everyone wear canvas shoes and shoot in a peach basket. What the fuck are you even saying... values lol.

Indiana High School basketball chooses to stay behind the game. This is likely a reason why half of the only Nike program in the state is from outside Indiana. Remember one of their scouts saying “these kids just aren’t good enough anymore”. 😔

ANY high school basketball game in 2026 without a shot clock is ridiculous. It’s not even “real” basketball. I was playing HS basketball in NY state with a shot clock in 1997.

@coach_jb1 I am so thankful that Indiana pushed back on the insanity of the shot clock at the high school level. The integrity of the game and tradition matter. Even if twitter clowns don’t think so.
