It’s very hard to forgive what has happened, especially if you’re directly affected but we must. Thinking of my father I sometimes wake up at night with an indescribable deep pain inside my soul. I’m his only advocate and justice has not been done. There’s one thing making a mistake, it’s another covering up those mistakes and/or being wilfully blind to them and many including those in positions of leadership still are. Understanding how we got here means we also have to forgive ourselves. Over decades as the system has become more corporatised so have we and it’s been a disaster. An economic system we are all complicit in puts profits ahead of people even when they are physically harmed by a pharmaceutical industry product. It also takes us away from what it means to be human. It brings out the darkest side in human nature. It makes us afraid of speaking out. It harms us mentally and physically. Freeing ourselves from these external systems of oppression will come from within. That means activating the best part of our nature and acting from a place of virtue. Speak the truth, seek justice, become wiser. But of all the virtues courage is the hardest but most important. Courage to be compassionate with those where are primitive brain is telling us are pure evil. The primitive part of our nature that breeds anger and violence is ultimately self destructive. We have to fight it by having a deep understanding and repeatedly reminding ourselves that evil is rooted in ignorance. And that ignorance can be overcome with dialogue. By conveying the truth in a compassionate way. It’s the only way to take us to a higher state of being and take us off the path to oblivion.
