Regarding the NCAA 5 for 5 stuff? Do we need a fun name for the 5th year athletes? Do we stick with 5th year senior? That seems outdated now. @Claunchinator should think of something witty.

@IndianaMat @dbeshada1 @huffyhenry414 @adamtirapelle How the rule would apply to 2026 enrollees has flipped back and forth as the proposal has evolved. I see now that the announcement from the NCAA yesterday echoes what you said. Still matters for Bassett, as the old rules give him 4 years and the date will decide if he gets 5.

I keep seeing accounts summarize the new NCAA rules saying eligibility befins “when the athlete turns 19”. That’s not exactly accurate. Eligibility begins in the academic year following the athlete turning 19. So, if any athlete turns 19 during his senior year of high school, he still has 5 years left, as the clock does not begin running until the next academic year. Slight nuance.
