As someone who served in Afghanistan as a machine gunner with 2nd Battalion 7th Marines you could not be more wrong, Grace. Marines die. That’s what we’re here for. But the Marine Corps lives forever. And that means you live forever. Do give your life so a future generation can have a better life is not ridiculous. Does that mean I support every neocon adventure? I do not. Does that mean I support the Military Industrial Complex? It does not.

I have made this mistake more than once in my life; confusing what I wanted, or thought was 'right' or deemed to be an obligation on my part. Don't confuse desire with reality. Stop making excuses for people in your life really don't care about you, they use you, and are only there out of appearances or they want or need something from you. They apologize, even say; 'gosh i am such a bad friend, I am sorry,' but repeats the same behavior year after year. Stop justifying, rationalizing, or minimizing the behavior or others; They are either your cheerleader / supporter or, they are something else. Some people are so selfish they have no time for anyone other than themselves, so waiting around for their humanity, love, respect, admiration or anything meaningful will leave you empty and disappointed. Life is hard enough - drop the humans in your life that care so much more about their own survival, prosperity and freedom, they simply do NOT have any time or space in their life, in their minds or hearts for you.
