For 24 years, I have run @AmaxEstates, a small independent business in #Gravesend. I’ve always paid my dues, supported the local economy and worked hard to build something sustainable. Over the past few weeks, I have been trying to resolve a serious issue with my business rates — and despite multiple emails and attempts to engage, I have received no response from @graveshambc I have been told one rateable value (£12,750) which was also confirmed over phones calls, yet billed another (£15,000), resulting in an increase from £147 per month to £642 per month — a rise of over 340% For a small business, this is simply not sustainable. I have also been unable to access the official system to challenge this before the deadline, despite repeated attempts. I am now left in a position where: • I cannot get clear answers • I cannot challenge through the system • I am facing a bill that could put a 24-year business at risk I have also contacted my local MP, @drlsullivan, and to date have received no response. This is not how small businesses should be treated. I am now working with the press to get answers — not just for myself, but because I suspect I am not the only one facing this. If you are a local business experiencing similar issues, please get in touch. This needs addressing. @VOAgovuk @HMRCgovuk @LauraTrottMP #SmallBusiness #Gravesend #BusinessRates #SupportLocal

This beautiful 13 month old baby was called Preston Davey. He was being adopted by two gay men, one was a teacher, in Blackpool, UK. Within 3 months, he was dead. The two men are accused of a whole slew of offences against Preston including sexual assault, taking extreme pictures and distributing them, GBH and his murder. This is an appalling story. Didn’t Preston deserve something better?

@Tarafox113m @BellaWallerstei Again, you think 35% being in work is a stat to be proud of? Most only work PT too (the average is 20 hours per week). Oh and don't get me started on how ADHD is now considered a disability for the purpose of DLA 🙄 The majority are just playing the system and you're a sucker.

Scrapping the two-child benefit cap is a betrayal. Why should hard-working professionals unable to afford kids ourselves be forced to bankroll families choosing to have three or more? Stop taxing us to the hilt and maybe we could afford children too

@MarchForRejoin @_HenryBolton He stated an objective fact - income tax revenue is now lower than the benefits bill. You are harping on about nonsense just to distract from the fact this is wholly unsustainable.

@Indy3749 @_HenryBolton You know exactly what he's implying, and listen to the clip or better still the whole show (like I did) and you'll know what he's implying. Which is misleading bollocks.

It is OFFICIAL green party policy to: - Allow anyone to get a tourist visa when arriving at a UK airport - To not monitor what they do in the country - And after they've been illegally here for 5 years, grant them settled status and full benefits entitlement. Absolutely bonkers

MG 801 - Any arrival can settle in Britain permanently in five years, whether they arrived legally or illegally, hold a visa or no visa, or are a criminal.

🚨Second home owners in Scotland hit with whopping 500% council tax premiums Council tax bills could reach up to £27,863 this year after local authorities were handed powers to raise bills by UNCAPPED amounts. This marks by far the highest second homes tax in Britain. This is totally unfair and every councillor who supports this should be ashamed of themselves. Envy and jealousy everywhere in Britain.

Incredible admission. 41% of those who will get more money from the two-benefit cap being lifted do no work at all.

@DeBarsham Hi jules- great to meet a fellow psychologist. Truth bombs are of course subjective and so ridden with prejudice. However, empirical data isn't- 59% of those affected by the cap are in work. gov.uk/government/sta…

@sonicnrs @RebelHQ That's for Child Benefit. The 2 Child Benefit cap doesn't actually refer to Child Benefit, it refers to the amount people on Universal Credit receive for their children.

Labour's Benefit Street Economy! Couple A both work, they have 2 kids and would like a third but the cost of bringing another child into the world is more than they can afford so they stick with 2. With frozen tax thresholds, their taxes will rise this year making it even harder. Couple B live on benefits, they have 6 kids, They will get child benefit for another 4 kids from today, £293 a month each kid! Another £1172 a month in benefit. They pay no tax. A free £17.5k a year child benefit for humping the missus a bit more carelessly. Couple

Graduated in 2017 with a First in Computer Science. Got a well-paid job. Did exactly what I was told to do. Started earning £50k+ and my student loan interest jumped from 3.2% to 6.2%. Despite making repayments since 2017, my debt has grown from £41k to £47k. How is that a fair system @RachelReevesMP? Especially when your generation effectively went to University for free. #restorebritain

When I left school in the 80s, I'd have been ashamed to go on benefits, so I never did, to this day We then offered benefits as a lifestyle choice, even if you chose to work part time Now we incentivise the world to come here to claim, making them 10x's wealthier

@trevgoes4th Immigrants in council housing aren’t causing house prices to be unaffordable. No amount of QT’ing makes that change. We don’t build enough houses. Houses are more expensive. Most people can’t afford them and can’t have families.

Not a single wealth creating measure for our country from @RachelReevesMP Only more taxing, borrowing and spending of taxpayers money. No nation ever grew more prosperous by taxing their citizens beyond their capacity to pay.
