Perhaps AIs greatest gift to humans will be the realization that, all this time, we were mistaking art for labour.

@ToKTeacher Interviewer: "What do you say to those who remain wholly pessimistic about the future? James Burke: "I don't say anything because sooner or later the pessimist has no option but to jump out the window, and that solves the problem for you."

If you want to win someone over (recruit, sales prospect, investor etc) Convince them you belong to the same group, and the rest takes care of itself In-group preference is one of the most powerful forces in human behavior People will funnel resources to members of their group, even if it means everyone gets less in absolute terms Other perks for group members: - actions are judged more moral - persuasion is more effective - memories of events are distorted in their favor (!) - attacks actually strengthen cohesion and loyalty Group belonging is so strong that it can even be triggered arbitrarily. People assigned to a group *at random* will still favor members of their group in these ways

No matter what you do, this is a useful idea: CLAW UP THE POWER LAW. Power Laws show up everywhere: Sports, Books, Music, Investing. 99% of results go to the top 1%. This was my approach to The Book of Elon. Whatever time and effort people normally put into a book, we put in 10X that. Title. subtitle. Cover design. Chapter titles. Order. Editing. Sentence, Paragraph, and Chapter Structure. Part Titles. Beta readers gave v5 of this book 10/10. Then we worked on it for another year. You'll be reading v8. Each time we put more money, effort, or thought into something extra, we'd repeat... CLAW UP THE POWER LAW.

One of Elon’s most under-appreciated strengths is recognizing his own mistakes, learning from them, and doing better. Then there’s building great teams …

@beffjezos xAI was not built right first time around, so is being rebuilt from the foundations up. Same thing happened with Tesla.

With everything going on at the home front, I’ve been super distracted and haven’t been providing updates. Although it doesn’t really feel like it, I’m actually down 11 lbs as of this morning. So checking in on those who are joining me, how’s the weight loss going for you?
Bearded Tesla@BeardedTesla

Couple years ago I started a weight loss journey that went really well. A lot has happened since then, and it’s an uncomfortable topic. I’m ready to try again for 2026. Anyone want to join me on this challenge? We can do it together!

.@dwarkesh_sp: By 2030, it will be less expensive to monitor every single nook and cranny in America than it is to remodel the White House. “Mass surveillance is, at least in certain forms, already legal. It has just been impractical to enforce so far. Under current law, you have no Fourth Amendment protection against any data you share with a third party. That includes your bank, your ISP, your phone carrier, and your email provider. The government reserves the right to purchase and read this data in bulk without a warrant. What’s been missing is the ability to actually do anything with all of this data — no agency has the manpower to monitor every single camera, read every single message, and cross-reference every single transaction. However, that bottleneck goes away with AI. There are 100 million CCTV cameras in America. You can get pretty good open source multimodal models for 10 cents per million input tokens. So if you process a frame every ten seconds, and each frame is 1,000 tokens, then for 30 billion dollars, you can process every single camera in America. And remember that a given level of AI ability gets 10x cheaper every single year - so a year from now it’ll cost 3 billion, and then a year after 300 million, and by 2030, it’ll be less expensive to monitor every single nook and cranny in this country than it is to remodel the White House. Once the technical capacity for mass surveillance and political suppression exists, the only thing standing between us and an authoritarian state is the political expectation that this is not something we do here.”

Macrohard or Digital Optimus is a joint xAI-Tesla project, coming as part of Tesla’s investment agreement with xAI. Grok is the master conductor/navigator with deep understanding of the world to direct digital Optimus, which is processing and actioning the past 5 secs of real-time computer screen video and keyboard/mouse actions. Grok is like a much more advanced and sophisticated version of turn-by-turn navigation software. You can think of it as Digital Optimus AI being System 1 (instinctive part of the mind) and Grok being System 2. (thinking part of the mind). This will run very competitively on the super low cost Tesla AI4 ($650) paired with relatively frugal use of the much more expensive xAI Nvidia hardware. And it will be the only real-time smart AI system. This is a big deal. In principle, it is capable of emulating the function of entire companies. That is why the program is called MACROHARD, a funny reference to Microsoft. No other company can yet do this.

Haldane’s quote turns 100 next year! Though well subscribed to in the scientific community: it’s not true! While @DavidDeutschOxf roundly refuted it in “The Beginning of Infinity” here’s another book for those still not convinced. Get it here: amazon.com/dp/B0GRR2LLZV/…
