I was trying to explain to someone yesterday why women defend single-sex spaces. “Imagine you were forced into an enclosed space with a strange man and told to take your top off in front of him. No choice. No opting out.” “That’s different,” they said. “That’s basically sexual assault.” “Exactly,” I replied. “Now imagine the man is wearing women’s clothes - but you still know he’s a man.” You could literally see the penny drop. This is the grown-up version of being plied with cider at a party, shoved into a cupboard with a boy - then being told you’re frigid if you don’t do what he wants. Only now, frigid has been replaced with bigot.

Artist Ethel Moorhead (1869-1955), the first Scottish suffragette to be forcefed, said, “You Scotsmen used to be proud of Burns; now you have taken to torturing women." How long must we wait until the Scottish government accepts the Supreme Court ruling that the legal definition of “woman” does not include “anyone who says he is”?

@deidrejowen I used to take medroxyprogesterone acetate (brand re-name, was Provera) for perimenopause-related irregular bleeding, and my sleep pattern was very poor. Once I stopped them I now sleep much better. Maybe your HRT contains progesterone which is causing your sleep issues?

We have concluded our regulatory action on single-sex space policies. All 19 organisations we contacted in August 2025 have now removed policies that misrepresented the Equality Act 2010: equalityhumanrights.com/media-centre/e…

@HotchkissRhona @AnasSarwar I can't in good conscience vote for the SNP, and I would never entertain a vote for any unionist party either. Options are few and far between - I would probably vote for ISP if they stand a candidate in my area.

I’m seeing lots of posts about not voting for the SNP in May because of their disgraceful behaviour on men in women’s prisons, the Supreme Court ruling etc., but has there been a clear statement to the contrary from @AnasSarwar & Scottish Labour? If not, why vote for them either?

An "F" on a man's passport, driver's license, arrest warrants, prisoner records, medical records or birth certificate does not recognise his "gender identity", it falsifies his sex. Government institutions must stop falsifying legal documents.

Dear @johnswinney, This is a letter to you from a mother whose daughter has a learning disability. A man- no matter how he identifies cannot administer same-sex care to a woman or girl. It is likely my daughter will live some of her life in the care system, once I am gone.

This is a photograph of me at eight years old. I remember that jumper clearly. I had dragged my dad into GAP, straight to the boys’ section, and begged for it instead of the girly blouse that had been suggested. At that age, I refused to wear any colour other than blue. I pleaded to have my hair cut short, properly short, like the boys. My parents would not let it be shorter than a bob. I am sparing you the photograph. It was truly dreadful. From about the age of three, I was unmistakably a tomboy. I asked for toy soldiers and a football shirt for Christmas (Chelsea- Blue is the colour!). I was the only girl invited to a friend’s football party. I was the only girl who turned up dressed as a prince to a ‘princes and princesses’ party. I read and wrote obsessively. I gravitated towards The Lord of the Rings, spy novels, all the familiar ‘boy’ stories. In every story, in every game, I imagined myself as a male protagonist. His name was always Theo, the boy version of my own. If someone had told me then that it was possible to actually BE a boy, that there were drugs I could take to transform myself and my body, I would have seized the opportunity. And deeply regretted it later. As I moved through my teenage years, I began to realise something crucial. I was perfectly capable of loving all of these things while still being a girl. I had despised the words ‘girl’ and ‘woman’ because I had bundled them together with every restrictive feminine stereotype I had encountered. Today, I would have almost certainly been described as having ‘gender incongruence’ or ‘dysphoria’. And on that basis, I might have been offered medical interventions that risk infertility and amount to chemical castration. Then when I’d been brainwashed enough, I might have been pushed towards a double mastectomy or cross-sex hormones. The Pathways trial MUST BE STOPPED. #StopTheTrial

Define “transwoman.” Who qualifies and who doesn’t qualify and how can women know the difference? How are “transwomen” distinguished from nonconforming men, androgynous men, cross dressing men, men in drag, or any other man. As you’re likely aware “transwomen don’t owe you femininity.” “Transwoman” is an inchoate undefinable category that ONLY APPLIES TO MEN. All men are men. Zero men are exempt from the category of “man.” So the question is really: It IS morally wrong for MEN to violate women’s single sex spaces? YES.
