Thank you @Gemma__Dunstan for featuring this important development in the criminal justice response to strangulation. The harm - physical, psychological, social - caused by strangulation is inherent to the act itself and sentencing of this offence must recognise that. IFAS Medical Director, Prof @catherinewhite7 shared: "We are pleased to have had the opportunity to feed into the guideline development. We hope that this will help dispel common misconceptions around this act, such as a tendency to overestimate the likelihood of visible external injury, a lack of understanding as to the extent of potential internal injury resulting from strangulation, and a lack of appreciation as to the inherent harm done by the act of strangulation regardless of evidence of physical injury."

I’ve written to the Home Secretary to urge the Home Office to commit to continuing funding for @InstituteFAS The Govt have pledged to halve VAWG & so I urge them to support the vital work of the IFAS which is central to achieving this @safelives_ @BangorUni @AAFDA6 @centreWJ
