Today marks Nowruz, the Persian New Year, a celebration of life, renewal, and prosperity, observed by more than 300 million people worldwide, from Iran and Afghanistan to Central Asia and the Caucasus. I’ve always been proud of my Iranian heritage, and Nowruz has always been deeply meaningful to me. I’m proud to share that tradition by displaying a “haft seen” table outside my congressional office. This year, Nowruz arrives at an incredibly difficult moment. As we celebrate, we also carry the weight of profound loss—remembering the tens of thousands of Iranians massacred by the Islamic Republic in January, and the innocent civilians killed in the ongoing war. We honor them by continuing to fight for a future rooted in freedom, dignity, and peace. See below for photos from Nowruz celebrations in years past.
