I’ve been predicting this for going on three (3) years, that eventually, the “Xbox” name will be but a small fraction of Microsoft Gaming’s brand. “Game Pass” will be the household name, instead of “Xbox” in the coming years. I also predicted that the closing of ABK would expedite this branding shift as it would solidify Game Pass’s place in the cloud gaming/streaming market and the gaming industry as a whole. - They originally called “Game Pass”, “Xbox Game Pass”, then a couple years ago dropped “Xbox” in favor of the logo followed by “Game Pass”. - They made Phil Spencer CEO of “Microsoft Gaming” (for multiple reasons), and WILL phase him out as “Head of Xbox” with this success under his belt, to further move the branding along slowly, but surely. - Now they’ve got rid of the word “Xbox” in every service offering they have and replaced them with “Game Pass” version such as this “Game Pass Core”. Next step now that ABK is closed is to: - improve the Cloud Gaming quality - spread the service to more devices via apps on a wider range of TVs like they’ve done with Samsung - they’ll bring back the “cancelled” Chromecast/Firestick-like device so that you can play Game Pass on TVs that don’t have the Game Pass app (I believe this was only cancelled to help push the ABK deal through) - they’ll put a heavier emphasis on Cloud Gaming on Xbox systems by allowing you to stream games that aren’t even on Game Pass These are all my *opinions* based on my analysis over the years, but I have zero doubt all of these will come true.
