Worth considering that another Falklands War could save Starmer and even give his premiership a second wind. I mean, I hope this doesn’t happen, but it’s not that far fetched.

@sommecourt On my visit to the area of the Lys where my gt uncle was blown to bits in April 1918, came across a grave in a nearby War cemetery marked “A Scots Officer Known Unto God” & felt we had got as close to him as we might. A LtCol at 26, my grandfather’s youngest brother,

A perfect day out in Ely celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary. Michael and I have been overwhelmed by the vast number of congratulatory messages. And a special mention to the taxi driver who picked us up at Ely station to take us to a restaurant for lunch and who was genuinely delighted when I mentioned our reason for being in the city.

@SandieBlickem Yes- that was their shop in Kensington Church Street, a favourite of my then girlfriend (1969 or so). Biba then moved to a huge former department store in Ken High Street and expanded. There at least they had comfy seating for bored males whilst the ladies shopped!

@aonghasphadraig It was great! Brìghde’s music was very fairy-like and beautiful. The others who performed that evening were also wonderful. Words and music, spoken or sung.

Sorry to hear about the death of Mark Tully. Anyone who worked in India for the BBC instantly became the beneficiary of his wisdom, kindness, humour and, above all, reputation. In India Mark Tully was the BBC. An absolute giant.

@markrwilliamson The site has been in University and College ownership for 100s of years and they must be allowed to decide the best use of their assets. The Vet School has been under criticism from the National Vet training overseer.

@TheCinesthetic Every shot in this movie is mesmerizing. So hard to comprehend that all was done without any CGI.

As Scotland celebrates World Cup qualification it reminds me of 1974 when my dad won a 2 week holiday for 2 to Germany to see Scotland play in World Cup. My mother stayed home to be at my older brother’s wedding! The story made the local paper and then Sunday People PS: We had a brilliant time PPS: My older brother later divorced PPPS: I had a brilliant holiday. At the time I was Editor of the Oxford Journal. My boss - soccer mad Tony Rosser who later became chairman of Oxford United - even signed off expenses to enable me to file match reports

@markrwilliamson Totally unnecessary. We’re a city of 150 000. And this is about a mile away from the main station.

Britain has the second-highest tidal range on the planet, behind Canada. And yet we make use of nearly none of it. If we seriously invest in tidal power, then we can create jobs, generate clean and cheap energy, and slash bills. My message to the Government 👇

@markrwilliamson @RedSpudd You can’t just plant and hope saplings will thrive. They need lots of TLC for the first few years. The Highways Agency planted thousands of of trees on the A14 route between Brampton Hut and Cambridge and at least 90%, probably more, have died from neglect…….

Establishing new woodland/forests is difficult. Especially in the East - an area classified as semi-arid with water scarcity issues and very little rainfall. Follow @RedSpudd you’re interested to see what’s involved.
Spudd Redman@RedSpudd

We planted 125 Oaks last winter, I have just pulled out 104 of them as definitely dead. Of those that are left 11 are definitely alive, the remainder I think are dead but we'll leave 'til the spring just in case. Not sure why I bothered, that's a lot of effort for nothing.

There are well-meaning motives behind wanting to reintroduce sea eagles, but the evidence strongly shows that this would not enhance biodiversity and would become a huge threat to animal welfare and see the loss of lambs. We should stop it. wfelibdems.uk/news/article/t…

The great S African lawyer Sir Sydney Kentridge is 103. In a Pretoria court in 1977 I watched in awe as he crucified the secret police who had murdered the Black Consciousness leader Steve Biko - arguably the start of apartheid’s downfall. A very happy birthday, dear Sydney!

@dave43law You can see why Johnson got rid of him,the last thing he needed was anyone with intelligence and integrity in his government. Far better to have intellectually challenged morons like Gullis and 30p behind him.
