Official: Claude Giroux has signed a 1 year contract with the Ottawa Senators. The contract carries a base salary of $2 million for next season with bonuses that could reach a maximum value of $5 million, and a no-move clause.

I’m fascinated to see how the Cutter Gauthier negotiation plays out in the wake of Leo Carlsson’s offer sheet. If you asked me yesterday, I’d tell you that Pat Verbeek has the leverage. Gauthier isn’t eligible to sign an offer sheet — demand is restricted to the Ducks and the Ducks only. Now, the question becomes how far is Verbeek willing to go, and how much is he willing to potentially damage the relationship between Gauthier and the team, before caving to Gauthier’s demands. Optically, Verbeek cannot afford to let a stalemate drag into training camp. Should it continue into December, as it did with William Nylander and the Leafs a number of years ago, the noise in Anaheim would be deafening. Not only does Verbeek now have to reckon with an exorbitant contract for Carlsson, but he also lost a great deal of leverage as it pertains to Gauthier’s next contract.

Couple notes on this - Michkov won’t require an insane contract like this - Fans always LOVE to overvalue draft picks and prospects. You already have a legitimate 1C. You may not get that with any of the four draft picks back, especially mid 1sts

This class was probably always going to be tough to recruit. If you don’t think their recruiting right now is excellence something is off. QB primo, but the lines more important.
