Unstoppable Duo: 50 points before the half with 1:55 of possession & state record win streak at 44 tonight for Axtell. Eli Broxterman of Axtell touched the football four times on offense tonight, he scored three touchdowns. When teammate and cousin Brandon Schmelzle wasn’t passing the ball tonight, he scored on two of three attempts he had the ball (rush TD, kick return TD). He also threw for a TD (3 of 5 passing) and had an interception defensively. The two also combined for seven two point conversions. Axtell point ruled Wakefield at the half and only had the ball for 1:55. Broxterman and Schmelzle were last years 8M-II OPOY and DPOY from SIK. Both continue to dominate. #sportsinkansas

Axtell 🏈has won 39 straight football games and three consecutive 8M-II state football championships under head coach Eric Detweiler. Axtell has just over 40 total students in its high school and around half of them are out for football. We were in town today to catch up with coach and several team members that we will hear from tomorrow. What a great small community in our state with incredible community support. #sportsinkansas

Axtell is one of the smallest 1A schools in the state with just 44 students in grades 9-12 combined. They sent 11 boys to regionals and all 11 qualifyied for state to capture the team regional title - they only have around 20 total boys in the high school! Golds in 4x800, 4x400, 100, 200, 800, 1600, 300H, Discus, Triple Jump, Long Jump. Also the back to back state champion in football with this same group in 8M-II. Grady Buessing- 4 golds. 800, 1600, 4x800, 4x400. Brandon Schmelzle- 4 golds. 100, 200, Long Jump, Triple Jump. Very, very impressive group of athletes here. #sportsinkansas

All-Star Spotlight: Isaac Detwiler, Axtell, is the son of Michelle & Eric Detwiler. A 3x First Team All-State - QB; 1x First Team All-Atate - WR and 2x 8-Man D2 Offensive Player of the Year. Issac plans to attend college before returning to Axtell to work on the family farm.
