@francoisfleuret I get that this is a joke, but the literal reading almost says something true. When you, or a calculator, reads "2+2=4", it gets embedded in a larger causal model that can parse numbers and do arithmetic. LLMs don't have that causal model, as proven by inputting OOD strings

@Isinlor @JesseKNL If both sides threaten to kill me, and I'm going to die either way - why fight at all? And if I'm going to be fighting to survive, then I should perhaps start with the closest of the parties that's trying to kill me, which would be the conscription officer.

@Draren_Thiralas @JesseKNL You think you have the right to your opinions because? You will do as the people with guns will tell you. Or they will kill you and your family. My greatgrand father, a Pole, was forced into Wermacht under a threat of the whole family being executed.

@ohabryka Not totally, just mostly... Like willingly causing 1 million casualties on his nation. Also, Putin himself does not subscribe to your view about the assassination of foreign leaders. He just failed at it. With Ukraine repeatedly.

@eeldenden Hopefully🤞 The single most important reform needed, the rest will follow. But it's not so simple as her deciding. It's either treaty change or passerelle clauses that can still be vetoed by members parliaments. I'm sceptical.

I refuse to accept threats of genocide as a tool of everyday geopolitics. But it very clearly is what is happening in USA. EU must forbid USA military presence here. And demand restoration of USA as a republic where one man can not credibly threaten erasure of a civilization.

@dpinsen @eugyppius1 It makes 0 sense to ally with countries that want us destroyed and subjugated since time memorial. Every other month I hear about nuclear Holocaust of Poland from Russian politicians. If Russians decided to become democracy then maybe - we are allies with Germany and Sweden.

@eugyppius1 It would make sense for both Europe and the U.S. to get along with Russia (more so for you guys), but there seems to be a lot of institutional resistance to that here and in Europe.

fanfiction about a US-Russia alliance to destroy Europe shows once again that a lot of the MAGA commentariat has come to regard “Europeans” as their greatest enemies - greater even than their genuine geopolitical rivals.

@DanielMOrnelas I don’t know that it ever really did. Blue Europe sent stuff, but the most useful stuff was US missiles, and they ended up building their own drone and munitions industry. Reason I think Eastern Europe just gets to manage itself.

They might take the Baltics. They wouldn’t have to “conquer” Europe (the country of) though, because the EU would just work with it. People forget that this was the plan all along, as illustrated by Nordstream - it took the 2022 Ukraine invasion for Europe (the country of) to even pretend to care. Germany sent some helmets in lieu of flowers, Estonia laundered Russia’s oil, and members of the EU Parliament were asking when business as usual could return. And somebody who -definitely- wasn’t Europe (the country of) had to blow up Nordstream so they wouldn’t negotiate to turn it back on. The risk at this point for all concerned is simply that the mask will slip.
Philippe Lemoine@phl43

Imagine being so clueless that you think Russia would be able to "conquer Europe" if US troops evacuated their bases on the continent. Once again, the problem with Americans is that, like many people, they are high on their own supply.

In the Telegraph interview, Trump said: "I am strongly considering pulling out of NATO." and “I was never swayed by NATO. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and Putin knows that too, by the way." Trump considering leaving NATO is no news, but that he brings out Putin in this context is.

@Kurtbelgard @MartinSkold2 Russians are revisionist fallen empire. And USA is making backroom deals with Russians about what air assets we can station in Poland and presents it to us and Ukrainians as ultimatum. I thought USA was our ally in persuing liberty but USA is not even a reliable weapons supplier.

I don’t have a corroborating source, but this would track - Western Europe in particular wants out. (Spain also reportedly just did this.) One reason for keeping NATO around was power projection into the MidEast - that may become a moot point. And conversely, if the reason for that power projection was to defend a US-Europe-Gulf consensus that is breaking down…it may not matter.

@Kurtbelgard @MartinSkold2 Russians are 100% threat to our way of life. Writing this from Poland in range of Russian artillery. But we don't need USA to defend us from them. Russian economy is smaller than Spain and Portugal combined. We are giving petty money to Ukraine and Russia is reaching WWI losses.

@MartinSkold2 Russia is no longer on a mission to subjugate the world to communism and so isn't a threat to our way of life. We don't have so much of a direct interest in defending Europe from Russia anymore. Islam wants to take over the world but Europe isn't even resisting.

Perhaps it is time for Europe and the USA to part ways. A European alliance instead of NATO, would be the best solution. The US would still remain our main strategic partner, and we theirs. But lately what we’re seeing is US egoism, and all we do is release statements about it.
