MFW my PM approaches me holding a box, knowing full well the box contains pizza and this means they want me to stay late

@simonw I always end up having to grant full control to repositories - when that is hardly ever what I actually want.

My favourite implementation of an easy mechanism to get a token for your own data is currently GitHub Personal Access tokens, but even those give you a list of scopes with not quite enough information to feel comfortable you're picking the right ones github.com/settings/token…

Confession: I've been working with OAuth for thirteen years, and yesterday I gave up trying to create myself an OAuth credential to access my Google Calendar data after half an hour of trying.

"On Monday, November 2, 2020 at 9am PST, Docker will begin enforcing rate limits on container pulls for Anonymous and Free users. Anonymous (unauthenticated) users will be limited to 100 container image pulls every six hours" this is going to break a lot of stuff

THE ONLY UK PRIME MINISTER ASSASSINATED was the one who: - Worked out how to ban slavery - Enforced that We don't even teach kids about HIM, a white Tory. That's how denialist we are. Meet the strangest political partners ever: Stephens and Perceval, the playboy and the zealot
John Bull@garius

~~~ wobbly lines ~~~ Welcome to 1800s Britain. When politics was largely the reserve of the landed gentry, there were no real laws to protect poor people and you could do virtually anything if you were rich. Including owning other people. There's a reason Rees-Mogg likes it.
Any know of a good tool to archive slack? It's for a domain no longer used but would be great to keep an archive of the messages somehow
Everytime somebody in Europe suggests that there should be a European cloud, one has to remember: No cloud provuder got started w/o a huge *other* biz to finance the crazy up-front CapEx.
Corey Quinn@QuinnyPig
A point: that $10.2 billion is REVENUE. It cost them $7.1 billion to provide the services. Great margins, sure, but I don't think anyone really "gets" how fantastically expensive building a global cloud provider really is.
@copyconstruct we're using CDK a lot, and it is not unholy amounts of yaml. recommended.
For all the talk of infra as code, in my entire career all I’ve seen is code that’s a tangle of shell scripts, or an unholy amount of json/yaml, jinja (hello ansible), Ruby or cloud formation templates. Or even before, things like boto + fabric (remember?)
Looked a bit into @PulumiCorp today and it looks amazing! Over all other programming languages used in the “infrastructure as code” space (HCL, cloud formation, yaml), this looks the most promising.
@mjg59 @dsilverstone Yeah, it makes no sense - I can't imagine it would actually be the case that there would be any internal config to make it better.
MORE WOMEN IN TOP SLOTS. Research says: (1) Women are better leaders than men. (2) Women are better negotiators. (3) Women are better salespeople. (4) Women are better investors than men. (5) Women are better educated and the F-M education gap is staggering.
Large organizations have terrible troubles with dashboards and percentages. 95% antivirus coverage on a network with 50k clients are 2500 unprotected computers. Nobody gets promoted for fixing the last 5%. But five percent is an entire universe of failure.
