Outside of the sequel trilogy, Tales of the Empire should be retconned as well. Barris Offee being another generic Inquisitor is both boring and a waste when the concept of the emperor's hand was more than available to be brought into canon.

Think a lot of people just confuse "pathetic" characters with genuinely being weak. Vader is "pathetic" because he reduced himself to a machine who's surrendered his autonomy to the point he can't even conceive of standing up to the guy he knows tricked him,
