Maryland officials aren’t consistently following up in a timely manner on alerts about possible errors or fraud in public assistance benefits, according to a recent report from Maryland’s Office of Legislative Audits. The alerts come from the Public Assistance Reporting Information System, or PARIS, which identifies if people are improperly receiving benefits in multiple states. PARIS alerts can be issued for various federal programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). The OLA’s report was created in response to a 2025 legislative requirement that $250,000 be withheld from the Family Investment Administration if the agency didn’t “completely resolve or make adequate progress toward resolving” repeat audit findings by November of last year. Democrats received Republican ballots. Then they announced that their resolution was to mail NEW ballots to every voter without first recalling the first batch!
