@CarlBovisNature Last yellow hammer I saw was 40 years ago in Suffolk. In our house when I was little Canary Pudding was known as Yellow Hammer pudding. It was a lemon steamed pudding. 😋

@DuncanWestbury @GWandShows @TheMontyDon @The_RHS I garden for wildlife here on the Somerset levels but I haven’t seen an earwig for several years.
English

If you liked the #EarwigShelter I demonstrated on #GardenersWorld, here’s a much smaller one that can be hung directly on plants like broad beans, peas, blueberries, blackcurrants etc @GWandShows @TheMontyDon @The_RHS

@mitchellsnik Yes. I find a lot of these but I think they are rose chafer grubs as I see a lot of those all summer. Do the grubs look the same? I always relocate to my compost heap. I spotted the first one about a week ago.

@CarlBovisNature I usually have 6or 7 each year in my Somerset wildlife garden. This year I glimpsed just one as it passed through

@IssyEmeney @gloswildlife It’s not, meadow clary is a different species, but should have similar germination requirements. Sow fresh seed and lightly cover.
English

Last year I collected seed of Wild Clary (Salvia verbenaca) from a remnant patch at the RAU in Cirencester to create new patches to reduce risk of loss. Next week a new patch will be planted with plugs once the sward is cut very short & raked off @gloswildlife

@jabberworks I’m also a bell ringer and a crumble lover. Two very English things. Also write picture books - so much in common 😊

@JohnSimpsonNews There some great reporters out there for whom I have a huge respect but somehow I’ve always had a particularly strong sense of reassurance and relief that when JS is reporting, I’ll hear or read something sensible, fair and important.

Please consider letting a little patch of garden grow wild, as this allows wildflowers to grow. Some wild plants - like dead nettle, nettles and cuckoo flower - are vital food plants for moth and butterfly caterpillars.

@juliet_turner6 @StevenFalk1 I usually cut it back after flowering to get fresh leaves and flowers. Should I not be doing this in respect to the caterpillars?

@bertsbooks The Philosopher and The Wolf. I’m actually looking forward to my 3am insomnia hours to read it! I finished it at 4am today and will start it again tonight. It’s one of those sorts of books.

@_JoelAshton Is it only elm that they lay on? Was rather hoping they’d reach Somerset but there ain’t no elms round as far as I know.
English

Well this is exciting and a nice change from the usual insect declines… 😍🦋

@_JoelAshton I planted 50 a couple of years ago. No show at all except a couple for the first time this year. I think our clay might be too heavy for them. Lovely to see yours tho.

Absolutely thrilled to bits to see the 70+ wild Daffodils that I planted as bulbs in November are now beginning to flower in what will be my woodland glade, in time 😍 #Daffodils
