@CarlBovisNature Last yellow hammer I saw was 40 years ago in Suffolk. In our house when I was little Canary Pudding was known as Yellow Hammer pudding. It was a lemon steamed pudding. 😋

Amazing scene from Yes Prime Minister where PM Jim Hacker unknowingly lied in parliament due to the civil service. Sir Humphrey as usual tries to blind him with big words.🤣🤣 You can just picture this sort of thing going on with Starmer behind the scenes about Mandelson.

@mitchellsnik Yes. I find a lot of these but I think they are rose chafer grubs as I see a lot of those all summer. Do the grubs look the same? I always relocate to my compost heap. I spotted the first one about a week ago.

Ever unearthed one while gardening? 🪲😱 This is a Cockchafer grub (or Maybug). These underground giants spend about four years developing in the soil, only to emerge and live for around seven weeks! Have you ever found one of these while digging? Let me know in the comments!

How many people out there are giving wildflowers a chance by leaving areas of their gardens uncut this year? Please RT if you are offering a lifeline to pollinators like bees, butterflies, moths, hoverflies and bats by mowing less!

@CarlBovisNature I usually have 6or 7 each year in my Somerset wildlife garden. This year I glimpsed just one as it passed through

If you see this photo, please leave a comment! This is a beautiful Greenfinch.😍 Greenfinches have suffered a huge decline in the UK in recent years due to Trichomonosis, a fatal disease spread via contaminated food, water & bird feeders. When did you last see a Geenfinch?🐦

Last year I collected seed of Wild Clary (Salvia verbenaca) from a remnant patch at the RAU in Cirencester to create new patches to reduce risk of loss. Next week a new patch will be planted with plugs once the sward is cut very short & raked off @gloswildlife

@jabberworks I’m also a bell ringer and a crumble lover. Two very English things. Also write picture books - so much in common 😊

After bell ringing practice last night, one of the ringers at the pub found out I love rhubarb, so we took a detour on the walk home to her garden. She picked a huge load of it for me by torch light so I could make crumble today, and this feels like the most English thing ever

@JohnSimpsonNews There some great reporters out there for whom I have a huge respect but somehow I’ve always had a particularly strong sense of reassurance and relief that when JS is reporting, I’ll hear or read something sensible, fair and important.

I’ve just spent an enjoyable hour blocking people who can’t be polite when they disagree with me. If you’re rude, threatening, ageist or abusive, straight down the toilet you go. Simple pleasures... Why not just disagree without being offensive? That way I’ll listen to you.

Who likes beetles? Saw this spectacular oil beetle in my Somerset garden a few days ago. Never seen such a huge beetle before.

Can anyone answer me this. Why is Donald Trump still President when he is manifestly unfit for office, to put it mildly. Is there no mechanism to remove him before he does any more damage?

@juliet_turner6 @StevenFalk1 I usually cut it back after flowering to get fresh leaves and flowers. Should I not be doing this in respect to the caterpillars?

Anyone else feel immense anger when someone decimates an established tree, hedge, shrub, or similar? 🤔 My neighbour did this yesterday to a Cotoneaster. Established way over 20 years. The pigeons and other birds sat on it and ate the berries. We live among absolute nutters.

@bertsbooks The Philosopher and The Wolf. I’m actually looking forward to my 3am insomnia hours to read it! I finished it at 4am today and will start it again tonight. It’s one of those sorts of books.

Absolutely thrilled to bits to see the 70+ wild Daffodils that I planted as bulbs in November are now beginning to flower in what will be my woodland glade, in time 😍 #Daffodils
