@IvieMDMPH Ask tons of questions. Don’t feel bad if you feel like you have no idea what is going on (you’re there to learn). Nurses are incredibly helpful. It will be scary but that’s normal

@IvieMDMPH If you get any new ostomy patients make sure to consult the ostomy nurses! It seems so basic but often the surgery teams punt consults to the ICU team and then it just doesn’t happen

@IvieMDMPH 1. the nurses are a valuable resource, they know where everything is, ask them. 2. the patients come to the ICU because they are high risk for decompensation/actively dying. think of it as, without ur intervention, they might have died, remember them on days that are difficult

I spoke at the UCSF commencement last night. There was a touching moment when they invited graduates from different cultures on stage to recite the first line of the oath in different languages. 17 languages altogether. It was very cool, thank you for letting me be a part of it.
