Christopher Hitchens: ”In 1786, when the United States was barely a country, it was having its sailors taken as slaves by the Barbary states, the states of the Ottoman Empire and North Africa. Tripoli, shores of Tripoli. Ships stopped, its crews carried off into slavery. We estimate 1.5 million European and American slaves taken between 1750 and 1815. Jefferson and Adams went to their ambassador in London and said, why do you do this to us? The United States has never had a quarrel with the Muslim world of any kind. We weren't in the crusades. We weren't at war with Spain. Why do you do this to our people and our ships? Why do you plunder and enslave our people? The ambassador said very plainly, Mr. Abdul Rahman said, because the Quran gives us permission to do so, because you are infidels, and that's our answer. Jefferson said, well, in that case, I will send a navy which will crush your state, which he did. Islamic fundamentalism is not created by American democracy. It's a lie to say so. It's a masochistic lie, and it excuses those who are the real criminals, and blames us for the attacks made upon us.”

@TourSwingsTommy How come my unorthodox swing doesn’t produce his scores? It’s not fair

I know Daniel Berger has an “unorthodox” swing, but it always seemed like a pretty intuitive way to swing a golf club to me. Not sure if I’m the only one who feels that way.

This story is now more than 25 years old and I have told it more times than I can count, but it hits very differently today. I was anchoring SportsCenter one afternoon and Lou Holtz was on the show. I was quite excited to talk with him, he had been an icon all of my life. He was very friendly, asking me all about myself as we walked toward the studio to record an interview. I told him: “Actually, Coach, it’s quite exciting, my wife and I are expecting our first child in the next few weeks.” He stopped dead in his tracks and put a finger up near my face. And I’ll never forget what he said. “Young man, the most important thing you can do for a child is make sure every day they know how much you love their mother.” And, just like that, he started walking again. Our daughter was born a month later, our son came two years after that. And I have thought about what Lou Holtz said to me that day about a million times since. RIP Coach, thanks for the best advice anyone ever gave me.

Feminism doubled the workforce and men's wages never recovered. Now every family is stuck in a two-income trap. @Rach4Patriarchy "Mostly women do a lot of the same things they used to do in the home. They're nurses, they're early childhood educators, they're retail workers, they're cooks, they're housekeepers. So now, instead of staying home with your kids and doing all these things for your family and for your community, you're doing them for a corporation. And you're paying income tax. You're paying all the other taxes associated with having to work outside the home: gas tax because you're driving back and forth to work, payroll taxes, all that kind of stuff. And you are away from your kids all day. Where do they go? They go to public schools, where the public school system then can dictate to them what the values should be, what the worldview should be, instead of the parents."

This Martha Stewart interview is such a great example of how women rewrite reality in their own heads, she calls her husband a piece of shit for cheating but then the interviewer reveals it was she who cheated first (he only started after he found out), her reaction is telling.

Last night, I was partying in a club with my husband & I was gone like "can't see straight, dancing with my eyes closed" He didn't drink a single sip. He just smiled & said, "It's your night. Enjoy it, I've got you." We danced, we kissed, he kept telling me I look cute when I'm drunk. The night ended with me literally passing out on his shoulder. He carried me to the car, buckled me in like I was fragile, drove us home, changed my clothes, tucked me into bed, & slept beside me one arm wrapped around me.. In the morning, I woke up with a headache...& saw him sleeping like an exhausted little panda. "That's when I realised, I married a man who gave up on his fun just to keep me safe.. who protected me in my weakest state.. A man who chooses me every single day"

@Guidry_golf_fit Golf is hard, man. To truly change your swing and get better you have to dedicate so much time. For us amateurs, it’s not feasible. Just try to hit it as straight possible and eliminate 3 putting. That’s all us weekend warriors can ask for

I have enough mobility, plenty of strength and power to swing a golf club and have been training consistently since i was in high school. Yet i still early extend Why? Because it is a swing issue not a physical issue and therefore no exercise will fix it.

Space Cowboy Lever Action, 200 years old design with a modern touch. It has come a long way from the days of westward expansion. One of the biggest reason for their popularity back in the day was the caliber compatibility with revolver sidearms. You only needed to carry one caliber to feed everything. But the lever made shooting prone difficult, that’s one of the reasons why bolt actions dominated military service instead of levers Still, lever actions are just so satisfying to use.
