@J4ck_OC Silva swings his arm into Collins' leg after being eased off the ball. The panel deemed that the action did not meet the threshold for violent conduct and supported the on-field call of a yellow card.

The precedent was set here.

I don’t want to see any Manchester City fans complaining tonight.

@StormLFC03 @htomufc Way more force though and force is a more significant factor for SFP

@DaleJohnsonBBC @adamkeys_ Thoughts on Silva and Martinez punching opponents and not being sent off
English

@adamkeys_ In your scenario there is no covering defender.
Thiaw becomes the DOGSO player and there is no doubt about the striker gaining control of the ball.
It's a hugely different scenario.
English

Referee Sam Barrott was right not to show a red card for DOGSO to Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope against Arsenal, according to the KMI Panel.
"It's a clear red card," Mikel Arteta said after the match.
The panel unanimously backed a yellow card.

Exactly this.
The same logic as a player kicking or heading the ball onto their own arm. (deflections are slightly different)

@ChachaMarquis @DaleJohnsonBBC I can't read IFAB's mind, but my guess is that IFAB consider it very unlikely that this scenario would ever occur except by accident, and it's unlikely that the defense actually benefits from a play like this, and so they'd rather just issue a blanket NOT A PENALTY ruling.
English

Yep, would have to be clear and obviously wrong on the free-kick.
It is possible that the referee could tell the VAR he would have given the penalty but for the attacking foul.
That could speed up a review process as the review would only need to be for the attacking foul.
Duo Qi@duoqi2014
@DaleJohnsonBBC Precondition for penalty intervention would be that it´s clear & obvious that there was no foul? If lack of foul is not clear & obvious VAR cannot intervene?
English

@grassrootsrefJa @DaleJohnsonBBC Caught him on the foot / ankle. Did you see what Anderson got away with on Thursday?
English

On the Merlin Rohl penalty claim.
Most of the holding by Bernardo Silva took place before the ball was in play, so that cannot be a penalty.
The holding that took place once the ball was in play was deemed not to be an offence.
File under extremely fortunate. #EVEMCI
English

@DaleJohnsonBBC @AJ1984EFC The offence continued while the ball was in play. This is pure nonsense from the officials
English

@AJ1984EFC If the actual offence is before the ball is in play though there's nowhere to go.
I'm not saying that's the case, but it's not straightforward as he's holding him so it has to be a penalty.
English

@DaleJohnsonBBC Extremely fortunate = gotta try to keep the title race alive
English

@AFChipgrave @mariEscobarPME VAR said it was predominantly before the corner was taken which implies that he was still fouling after the corner was taken
English

Marc Guehi was under no pressure by Thierno Barry, in an offside position.
Guehi had full control and made a poor pass without the offside player impacting.
This resets the offside phase and means Barry is no longer active.
Excellent decision from Michael Oliver. #EVEMCI

@DaleJohnsonBBC Blatant penalty for Everton not given. Very prolonged holding with both hands wrapped around the player
English

@AfcMark_ @DaleJohnsonBBC Don’t be pointing out his inconsistency, he doesn’t like that and he’s too stubborn to admit it anyway
English

@DaleJohnsonBBC Except when it’s an Arsenal player who gets head butted. And Worrall did t even play the ball

English

Antony Taylor there giving a similar penalty to the one he gave in Brighton v Arsenal last season.
Attacking player nods the ball first, and then is headed himself by an opponent.
