One of the biggest mistakes of my life was dismissing Ethereum. I told myself a kid with some poorly written Python code couldn’t possibly build something more ambitious than Bitcoin. I questioned the idea and uses of decentralized applications and used those doubts as excuses to ignore it. I had mined Bitcoin. I considered it and I could have easily joined the ICO, and my life (wealth) would look very different today. That experience changed how I evaluate new technology. Instead of letting biases shut off my mind, I dig much deeper before deciding. I'm also more easily convinced with facts. That’s why I’m one of the first to be all-in on AI and $AMD, from my unique vantage point, the opportunity and need is clear, and I’m not making that same mistake twice.

one bit of kernel benchmarking sleight-of-hand that is a bit subtle is that if you are running float32 matmuls/linear layers in pytorch, TF32 is disabled by default, meaning that you are also turning off tensor cores on Ampere+ gpus in eager mode, even in latency-sensitive cases, this can easily be a >2x perf. hit in practice no one running production training or inference workloads would be doing matmuls in full fp32 (read: math library developers don’t prioritize these cases), but it’s something that can be slipped into a publication while looking innocuous
