@BrettFromDJ Plenty of us “serious designers” that never bothered much with it in the first place because designing primarily in the output medium has always been the way. “Precision and control” lmao

@radbar_1 @BrettFromDJ That wasn’t the point of the OP, so don’t be disingenuous. The point was that people who consider it their primary way they design, basically lean on it as *the* tool/skill for design, it’s a liability. Good grief.

@BrettFromDJ @phileeppov It’s not just now, people have been making entire careers out of being Figma jockeys for years calling themselves product designers. If you’ve been ignorant of it, good for you, but hiring in corp design I’d even say it was getting to be the majority.

@phileeppov This has literally always been the case long before Figma even existed. It’s funny folks are just now making it a thing. 😂

@_andresjasso You young pups are so cute. There’s some of us that have been saying this for 20yrs (when it was Photoshop and then Sketch and then Figma). Moving to the output medium as soon as possible in the design process has always been the way.

unpopular opinion: Figma proficiency is becoming a liability and nobody wants to say it. you mastered a tool that still ends with a developer rebuilding your work from scratch. it's giving "expert trap".

I can see how just straight prompt vibe coding could result in some pretty messy production apps. But I also keep finding that with a career's worth of exp in software and being careful, slow, and paying attention, it can do some pretty incredible/helpful things.

But also, these tools are routinely doing things that would routinely get missed by some of the best engineers alive that I've worked with. And even if they DID think about it, it would have been a 2 week "discovery sprint" vs. Claude's 1m 34s. 👏

The back/forth on whether the X community thinks vibe coding has any production value has been fascinating to observe. I thought it'd be fun to share an example today that I think is pretty representative of my experience with it so far. I was working on a bug today…

@spikesguides Maybe your tune would be different if any of those guns had resale value to begin with

Never be afraid of painting your guns. Worrying about resale value is for nervous liberals and boomers.

We spent decades joking that Chuck Norris could never die, that death itself was afraid of him. Today life reminds us how fragile it really is. I'm genuinely sad to hear of his passing and I hope his family finds comfort in the love so many of us had for him.

If people want to know why Gen X is always mad, it's because we had to replace our record collections with a tape collection and then replace that with a CD collection that we slowly replaced with an MP3 collection and now need a subscription to listen to music.

“What should the behavior be when someone saves an image on their iPhone?” “Let’s just bury it in their library chronologically based on when it was taken so it immediately becomes impossible to find.” “Perfect.” - UX designers at Apple
