@VitalikButerin Thank you for calling attention to inhumane practices. It's possible to farm ethically - ending massive factory farming operations - with all the animal abuse and downstream risks to people from poor food safety would be a win/win.

Sent another 64 ETH to the Animal Welfare Fund. I encourage others to think and act more in support of our non-human cousins too! The extreme suffering we're imposing on them in the billions is not something we talk about often, but it continues to be one of the larger blights on humanity. And I'm getting optimistic that this century we can finally end it. Farming practices are improving, synthetic alternatives are improving. Also, in my recent experience, good old low-tech vegetarian and vegan food has improved massively worldwide over the last ten years; I encourage anyone who has tried it long before and given up to take second look; there are far more healthier and tastier options today than the "pasta and salad" you would often get ten years ago.

Still zero application for baby Marshmellow 😞 this dog is perfect! I don’t get it ! He’s dog friendly AND cat friendly, lives with kids and adores everyone. He is healthy, vaccines UTD, neutered, crate trained, house trained. There’s literally no « but » whatsoever and yet he is still extremely overlooked. Please help us find him a forever home 🙏🏼 Adoption possible anywhere in the USA if it’s a match. ➡️ stacyhoperescue.org

He sat in his kennel for 2 months, then with foster for one year 😔 Marshmellow (previously Admiral) has received….. ZERO APPLICATION ! 💔 we rescued him from Moreno Valley on January 2025! Don’t ask why because I have no freaking idea 😢 He’s literally perfect ! He’s playful, cuddly, crate trained, potty trained, dog friendly, kids friendly, smart, affectionate and always ready for adventures or just snuggle on the couch watching tv (he loves tv). This sweet 2-3 years old pup is eager to be someone’s best friend! Don’t overlook him, please share🙏🏼 Please continue sharing the dogs even if they’re out of the shelter. Rescues can’t pull from shelter if they’re full. Marshmellow ID #A539359 📍Pasadena, CA 🤍Adoptable in any state 🇺🇸 if it’s a match. 🤍 Check his profile on stacyhoperescue.org

Eight years into studying whales, Nan Hauser believed she understood their size and strength. Then one afternoon off Rarotonga she felt a pressure she had never felt before — a 40‑ton humpback whale pressing its head against her body and lifting her toward the surface. At first she thought the animal was playing too roughly. She tried to push away, but the whale kept tucking her under its pectoral fin. For seven and a half minutes the great creature nudged and nudged, even raising her clear of the water on its flipper. Only when she glimpsed a second silhouette did she understand. The “whale” moving side to side was actually an 18‑foot tiger shark, arched in attack posture. In that instant the humpback positioned her on its head and raced toward her boat, shielding her with its massive body. Within ten minutes she was safely back on deck, shaking with shock and gratitude. Hauser, a lifelong marine biologist, had never experienced anything like it. “I felt love, concern and care from the whale,” she told The Guardian. She had spent her career filming these animals quietly, believing the best way to understand them was to let them be. Now one seemed to understand her vulnerability and acted. Scientists note that humpbacks have been documented interfering when predators attack other species, behaviour some call “mobbing”. Whether the whale’s act was true altruism or an instinct honed by eons of kin‑selected behaviour, Hauser felt the encounter as a deliberate choice. The story didn’t end there. A year later Hauser was back in the Cook Islands when a familiar tail surfaced. She recognised the whale by the notches on its fluke and the scar on its head. As she slid into the water the whale approached, looked her in the eye and extended its giant fin. She rubbed its face and began to cry. The whale lingered near her boat for twenty minutes before swimming away. There is no moral to pin on a whale’s fin, no proof that a giant mammal meant to save a human. There is only a moment when a life hung between a predator and a protector and something ancient stirred. Perhaps this is what happens when we spend enough time listening rather than dominating: another being may recognise us as kin. In a world where we often assume only humans are capable of compassion, a humpback whale carrying a scientist to safety suggests the ocean itself may be watching over us.

A boy in England named Owen Howkins, seven years old at the time, had a condition called Schwartz-Jampel syndrome. There are only about thirty people in the world with it. His muscles were permanently tensed and never relaxed, so he was in constant pain and needed a wheelchair for any real distance. By the age of seven he had basically stopped going outside. He couldn’t handle the way people looked at him. His family came across a dog on Facebook. An Anatolian Shepherd, a big livestock breed, that had been found as a puppy tied to a railway line in north London. He’d been struck on the tracks before anyone could get to him. He survived, but he lost a back leg and his tail. The rescue had been trying to rehome him for months without luck. The breed has a tough reputation in Britain and nobody wanted a disabled one. The first time the dog, Haatchi, was brought into the room, he walked straight to Owen’s wheelchair and laid his head in the boy’s lap. Owen’s stepmum, a dog trainer, said the moment was the strangest thing she’d ever seen. Within a year Owen was walking around his neighbourhood telling strangers his dog’s story. In 2013 the pair won an award at Crufts, Britain’s biggest dog show, voted on by the public. A short film about the two of them got close to two million views. A book about them, Haatchi & Little B, came out in 2014. Years later Owen, by then a teenager, said it plainly. “I used to be scared of strangers, then Haatchi came along and now I’m not. I didn’t meet many others with disabilities and felt like the odd one out. But when I saw Haatchi and saw how strong he was, even though he only had three legs, I became stronger myself.” Have you ever known an animal that genuinely changed a person?

#SaveLucy It’s very frustrating how entitled people feel to encroach and mistreat others and/or their pets. Let Lucy go! Leave our vet and his family in peace.
Dolly Spice- Jones 🌱🎵@Herb_Minstrel

~ Part 2 of 2 ~ …four weeks ago, Lucy slipped her collar in our own yard, for mere seconds. My husband immediately got her and put it back on. No incident. No harm. Nothing. Just seconds. But in that exact moment, the wife of a local attorney, one of the core members of this mean-spirited little circle, decided to call it in. Because “she was told to”. I can only assume by the joggers mother or the spy who lives on the other side of our wooded tree-line. Because of that, our elderly dog was taken from our home and is now sitting in state custody. My husband is now facing serious legal consequences that could destroy us, all over something that lasted seconds, on our own property, with zero harm done. Let that sink in. This is not justice. This is complete abuse of the legal system. It is weaponized gossip, coordinated harassment, and people using law enforcement and the courts to try to intimidate and force a family out because they don’t like who we are. The lies that have been spread about us are disgusting. The level of obsession required to monitor and report us like this is disturbing. We did nothing but move into our home, build our little farm, and try to live our lives. Rest assured, we will continue to fight until our old Lucy is back home with us. *Photo of Lucy chasing her best friend Lex, our other military rescue pup, in our field this past winter*. Lex misses her so much 😢 #savelucy #puppyrescuemission
