Do you remember this email I received two years ago which was very sad at the time 😞 Well the good news is I can now name a cub after Daria as Autumn brought us a very healthy bouncy fluffy cub last night and the video is to follow later. I have of course promised to name the next cub to arrive Daria it’s the least I could do 😔😮🦡🐾🐾❤️ Dear Mrs Beddard, may I please take the liberty to send you this email on Mr Lumpy’s day and share something that probably only you would really understand. My name is Evgeny Moskalev, and my wife’s name is Daria Moskalieva. We have been living in Germany, in Erlangen, a small university town close to Nuremberg in Bavaria. I am originally Russian and have been working in Germany in the field of academic cancer research for more that 18 years. My wife comes originally from Ukraine and has been studied political science at the University of Erlangen in Germany. Daria was very talented in many ways: beautiful human being, brilliant mind, music teacher. She has always been fond of animals, used to keep a lot of them at home as a child. She was convinced they were better than humans in many ways. Several years ago, she opened badgers for herself and fell in love with them, indeed. My birthday present for her last year was a so called «Being an animal keeper for one day» in the animal park in German Anholter Schweiz. One could learn how to feed wild animals including badgers in this natural park. That was her first time to meet badgers live, and it was one of the best days in her life, indeed! We both admired your excellent initiative of Mr Lumpy and Friends! I learned about Mr Lumpy, Narnia, and other beautiful badgers from Daria. We were so inspired with what you have been doing all this time and tried to make a small but regular support of your initiative. At our home in Germany, we also have a calendar with Mr Lumpy, the Fox, the great entry of the Sheep through the pink gate, Garold the Hedgehog and other animals from Narnia. Daria has never been to the UK, but I once suggested her that if we manage to visit the country some day, she should contact you. Also, at home we had two toy badgers (Daria called them ‘Darius’, the male form of her name). And her slogan in instagram was ‘I wand to become a badger when I grow up instagram.com/cavalier_pomod… Unfortunately, life had other plans. Recently, on September 18, 2024 Daria passed away in an accident. She was only 32. She was on an excursion in Samaria Gorge on Crete with a family of her relatives. She was the only person who got injured because of an unexpected storm and died on spot because of bleeding. Additionally, I just though that maybe Daria’s dream of becoming a badger could become true at least in words and you could name one of the new cubs visiting Narnia Darius or Daria? Meet Daria our first Badger Cub of the year named after the tragic loss of Daria who’s wish was to be a badger 😍 It’s a big fluffy chubby cub so I expect Autumn has only had one, but we’ll have to wait and see. We now just need to see Boo’s and Pumpkin’s cubs. This is what conservation is all about and I’m feeling very proud that we have helped 21 years of different generations flourish after the houses were built on their land.
