@jtbourne Think that’s in the player culture too, a bit. Lot of the greats openly marvel at what the guys (heck, even the kids) now are doing pretty openly.
Like Bure on McDavid is the sort of quote you just never see an old head NBA player say about a Steph or Wemby:

Hockey is oddly kinda the opposite where a certain type of fan of the game today doesn’t believe Gretzky would play above their fave team’s third line

My feed is drenched in whining about how much the modern NBA sucks. Seems even more whiny than normal. Do other sports have such a vibrant cottage industry of anti-fan posters who are so determined to hate on the sport?

Hockey fans need to learn the difference between a franchise player and generational player.
Generational are once in 10 years best in the game type players...
Crosby
Mcdavid
Ovechkin
Mario
Gretzky
Jagr
Orr
Lindstrom
Hasek
Roy
Franchise players are elite elite but not quite the best of their era..
Joe Sakic
Sundin
Lafontaine
Mogilny
Mackinnon
Adam oats
Brett Hull
Pierre Turgeon
Curtis Joseph
Carey Price
Matthews
Draisaitl
Kucherov
Eichle
Quinn Hughes
Then you have players that will trigger debates..
Lindros was going to be generational but injuries killed that.
Forsberg.. considered by many the best swede to ever lace em up, another injury plagued career but i'd argue for him being close.
Cale Makar could end up being Generational when it's all said and done, he's on that path at the moment.
Ray bourque. Paul Coffee likely could be called generational as they were the best of the best in the 80's on D.
I just don't like to give our generational easily.. There should be 1-2 forwards, 1-2 Dmen and 1-2 goalies per generation that get that type of tag. the clear best of the best for that position.
@MinorMidgetGTHL you said something that made me think of this post so i made it. Give me your take on it all when you're bored.

👀 @brysondech's confidence is high ahead of The Masters
REPORTER: "The average age of the last 20 winners has been 32 years old. How does it feel to be playing well and be 32 years old?"
DECHAMBEAU: "I mean, it's great. If that's the way the stats line up and they work in my favor, fantastic. I don't try to look too much into that and focus on what I can accomplish."
"Obviously I'm playing well and I feel like my game's in the best place of its career, outside of maybe Greenbrier when I shot 58. Outside of that, I'm excited to get the week going and see where I can put myself."
