The Aramaic Wire ܣܘܪܝܐ
We are getting an insane level of interest in our posts on Aramaic. People keep asking. Why does Aramaic matter? I have a simple answer. Because Aramaic is the language of the MARTYRS. Over and over, those who have safeguarded this language became martyrs for Christ. Let me tell you one simple story, one of hundreds. About the man who compiled the first modern Aramaic dictionary, who the Turks brutally killed in 1915. Bishop Thomas Audo was the Chaldean Archbishop of Urmia who spent his life compiling the first dictionary of the modern Syriac Aramaic. During the height of the Assyrian genocide, Turks advanced on Urmia. Over 80,000 of his flock fled, but Bishop Audo stayed in Urmia at a French Mission. He was stripped naked & marched through the streets. A Persian from the village of Balar entered the Mission demanding money & shot the Bishop through his cheek. Kurdish soldiers soon arrived & began tearing the beards of priests from their faces. Audo was taken to the American hospital where he was beaten again by Turkish soldiers, until he died from blood poisoning. When we protect Aramaic, when we preserve it, we preserve the memory of martyrs like Bishop Audo. That's why Aramaic matters.

Call me naive. I believe we can make the genocide of Middle Eastern Christians one of the biggest issues of our time. Bigger than Israel. Bigger than Gaza. If the West wants *Christian revival*, it can no longer ignore the persecuted church, or said revival will never arrive.

We are following closely with concern the situation in al Suqaylabiyah, a predominantly Greek Orthodox city. We take note of the Syrian Government’s announcement on the investigation of the incidents that recently took place in the city and we call for its swift implementation.

It is NOT too late to save the Christians in Iraq & Syria. There are enough of them & enough who left recently. They WOULD & COULD come back. If they were protected. If people like @PeteHegseth & @JDVance who claim to care about Christians ACTUALLY made this a priority.

If we lose Assyrians in Iraq, we lose a people from the *Old Testament* who are preserving *Aramaic*. If we lose Maronite Christians in Lebanon, we lose the last chance of culture in the Levant. If we lose Orthodoxy in Syria, we lose every last memory & legacy of Antioch.

An Orthodox Crusade is celebrated every 25th of March March 25 is a double holiday in Greece because it marks both a major religious feast and the country's national Independence Day. Religiously, it celebrates the **Annunciation** (Ευαγγελισμός της Θεοτόκου), when the Archangel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary that she would give birth to Jesus Christ. This is one of the most important days in the Greek Orthodox calendar, observed with church services and traditional Lenten foods like cod with garlic sauce. Nationally, it commemorates the start of the Greek War of Independence in 1821 against Ottoman rule. Tradition holds that Metropolitan Germanos of Patras raised the revolutionary flag on this date at the Agia Lavra monastery, symbolically launching the uprising. The date was deliberately chosen to link the fight for freedom with the sacred feast, and it was officially established as the national holiday in 1838. This unique overlap blends faith and patriotism, making March 25 a day when Greeks honor both their Orthodox Christian heritage and their hard-won liberty through parades, ceremonies, and celebrations.

The Old Man of Peloponnese: One man against an Empire. Good odds for any Greek against eastern hordes. Born in Ramovouni, Messenia (Peloponnese), into a powerful klepht (mountain guerrilla/bandit) family with a long tradition of resisting Ottoman rule. His father and uncles were killed by the Ottomans when he was 10 years old, an event that shaped his lifelong hatred of Turkish rule. Hate for the turk burnt in his soul. He grew up in the rugged mountains of Arcadia and Mani, learning the art of irregular warfare from a young age. Before the revolution, Kolokotronis lived as a klepht, armatolos (legalized Christian militia leader), and later served in the British Greek Light Infantry on Zakynthos (under philhellene Richard Church) during the Napoleonic Wars. This experience gave him valuable training in modern military organization and tactics, which he combined with traditional Greek guerrilla methods. Kolokotronis returned to the Peloponnese just before the uprising and quickly organized klepht bands into a more effective fighting force. He was one of the first major leaders to take the field and played a central role in the early successes that kept the revolution alive in the south. Key achievements and battles:Battle of Valtetsi (May 1821): One of the first major Greek victories. Kolokotronis helped defend the village against Ottoman forces, boosting morale and paving the way for further advances. Siege and Fall of Tripolitsa (September 1821): As overall commander, he led the prolonged siege of the Ottoman administrative capital of the Peloponnese. Its capture was a huge symbolic and material victory — the Greeks gained weapons, supplies, and control of much of the region. They purified the turkish stench from the Peloponnese once and for all. Battle of Dervenakia (August 1822): His masterpiece. When the large Ottoman army of Mahmud Dramali Pasha invaded the Peloponnese, Kolokotronis used scorched-earth tactics, blocked supply lines, and ambushed the retreating Turks in the narrow Dervenakia passes. The result was the near-total destruction of Dramali’s force (estimated 20,000–30,000 men). This victory is often cited as one of the most decisive of the war and forced the Sultan to call in Egyptian help under Ibrahim Pasha. His force was less than 2000 Greeks. His famous quote was: “Greeks, God has signed for our Liberty and will not go back on His promise.”
