They must show the suffering that war always brings to populations, which entails showing the face of war and recounting it through the eyes of victims.

There is a lack of systematic and serious planning within maritime Southeast Asian capitals regarding a possible US–China conflict over Taiwan, despite countries recognising the strategic implications of such a possibility. This paper proposes a ‘building blocks’ approach at the domestic, bilateral and multilateral levels to enhance Southeast Asia’s regional crisis-response architecture. 🚨Today 12 organizations signed on a joint statement to mark one year since Thailand forcibly deported 40 Uyghur men to China, 🇨🇳 despite clear warnings that they faced a real risk of arbitrary detention, torture, and enforced disappearance. Since their return, the whereabouts of many of them remain unknown. One year on, five Uyghur men remain in detention in Thailand and are at serious risk of facing the same fate. We call on Thailand 🇹🇭 to uphold its obligations under international law and protect these five men from refoulement. We also urge China 🇨🇳 to provide proof of life, disclose the whereabouts of those deported, and allow sustained international monitoring to ensure their safety and well-being.
