Someone sent me a direct message telling me that my hands are ugly. I initially thought of ignoring but decided to respond to the comment by writing a poem. It’s called:
In the Eye of the Beholder
These are the hands of a woman
who is the mother of three
daughters.
These are the hands of a woman
who teaches and cares for young
children.
These are the hands of a woman
who has poor circulation.
These are the hands of a woman
who has psoriasis.
These are the hands of a woman
who manages a home as a single
parent.
These are the hands of a woman
who rakes leaves, takes out the
garbage, cooks, cleans, and does
dishes.
These are the hands of a woman
who takes care of animals.
These are the hands of a woman
who volunteers.
These are the hands of a woman
who jumps rope.
These are the hands of a woman
who tries her best to lift people up.
These are the hands of a woman
who lifts weights to stay strong.
These are the hands of a woman
who manages a thyroid condition.
These are the hands of a woman
who writes.
These are the hands of a woman
who has never given up.
These are the hands of a woman
who is 49 years young.
These are the hands of a woman
whose dreams have no expiration
date.
These hands may not be beautiful
to everyone but they are beautiful to
those who understand,
For beauty is in the eye of

Just got an email from our daughters teacher in NYC that she’s home tested positive but - because no symptoms since Thurs - she’s mandated to teach tomorrow. Yes, we’re literally forcing Covid positive teachers into class (our kiddo staying home obvs). This is nuts.

@NicholasFerroni Those getting upset need to return to the classroom and be reminded of how much harder it is to create sub plans than to show up sick. Being physically away very rarely equates to being mentally away.

Nothing is more telling about a school administration than when teachers use a sick/personal day (that they contractually entitled to) when they are sick, and administration gets upset or even threatens them for using a sick/personal day, because now they have to find a sub.

It's day 30 of my husband being in the hospital with covid. Day 22 of being sedated Day 21 of being on a ventilator. Day 4 of having a trach with the ventilator connected. And day 3 of having his body paralyzed. I really need your prayers and good thoughts

@melanie_korach I love this and all your work. Could you please mention how people can even be kind when they drive carefully and considerately. This has become a huge issue in the USA and I am afraid that there will be more people hurt because of the lack of empathy on the roads.
