@JLARSONPDX @mattyglesias 30 years ago was the 1990s. Quite a lot of off ball touching by the defense was permitted. Only the fouls that are called are actually fouls, and the rules allowed hand checking… which included grabbing jerseys in practice. OTOH, today Bill Russell could play zone defense

@Jesse_Leg I think this is backwards, contemporary defenses would crush 90s post offenses with double teams since the spacing would be so bad with relatively few three point shooters on the floor.

@RetailsRefuge @Zigmanfreud But that’s when it really started. On the other hand, in the late 90s the biggest complaint in the NBA was that nobody could shoot anymore. Now that is the era that people wish would come back. This is mostly millennials remembering their teenage years fondly.

Great coaches recognize their personal and don’t spam actions that their team is terrible at. Portland ran ZERO sets all year and took a ridiculous amount of 3’s while being terrible at it Spurs players were basically laughing at how bland and easy our offense was to figure out

@503Blazerfans The team ran plenty of sets. Doesn’t matter when the team can’t shoot so all you have to do is sit and wait for them to eventually drive then use your 7’5 DPOY to block their shots all the way to Tel Aviv. Spurs players were laughing at that.

Billups said last off-season the offense had to change. Splitter was literally brought in specifically to fix the offense. We can discuss all the other things, like navigating a difficult season as a rookie head coach, but the "what was he supposed to do?" argument is silly.

@Sakshi26133806 @tomselliott @NickKristof If you only test kids who can be guaranteed able to pass the test you can easily get nearly 100% pass rate it doesn't mean you are good at educating. Also retention is automatic so there is no guarantee they will ever take the test (they might be 3rd grade till dropping out.)
