With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably.

@joecguinan Worked for 7 years in a supermarket. Not once did I ever see a shoplifter steal to feed their family, only ever to feed their habit.

Imagine thinking this is a story about petty criminality rather than what it really is, a story about the collapse in living standards and the cost of living crisis. These people pretend to love Britain but actually just love Thatcherism and hate its victims, the British people.
Ben Graham@BenGrahamUK

Security tags on a block of cheese. This is where Britain is now. When basic food needs anti theft devices, it’s not just crime, it’s a collapse in deterrence and standards. A serious country doesn’t tolerate this.

@afneil Norway’s oil & gas extraction is also ‘nationalised’. It belongs to the country, all profits are their’s. UK gets a smaller slice of the cake as they just issue licenses and take a % of profits. Not the whole cake.

Nearly all Norwegian gas is sold into the European market at prevailing market prices ie it’s a free market. It is not sold ‘cheaply’ in the domestic Norwegian market. The Norwegian people benefit from taxes on gas, the jobs it generates and the boost to the balance of payments, just as the British people similarly benefit, now on a smaller scale, from gas extracted from our part of the North Sea.
PAD@68PAD

@afneil Norway own theirs and use it for the good of the people we chose to place ours in the hands of free market capitalists , we can however control the price of renewables that we produce ourselves , not saying we can’t do both but don’t see the long term solution is anti net zero

This week the National Education Union has vowed to stop a Reform government- by urging its 500,000 teacher members to campaign against Reform in the classroom. This is not education. It’s indoctrination. And it’s against the law.

@THemingford @StatikChannel if the real output of the economy doesn’t grow to justify the higher wages, you’re just redistributing nominal money with inflation eroding the gain.

@lukejcr @Ed_Miliband Shame the price cap actually raised energy prices, because all energy companies got rid of their cheap tariffs and just raised it to the maximum they could get away with.

Back in 2013, @Ed_Miliband proposed an energy price cap. David Cameron called it “Marxist.” Today it kicks in, cutting £117 a year from bills, perfect timing given the conflict in Iran. Turns out someone was right all along. Cheers, Ed. ⚡

Most who are scared of Islam, hate Islam and think islamists are taking over the country live outside of London. I live in Essex, I’ve woken up (obviously) bathed dressed, popped over to my friends before starting work, popped to the shop, gone for a walk, moved my car, back to work…. Don’t think I’ve seen a Muslim yet… today, haven’t heard any call to prayer, not seen a mosque or halal sign and if I did, I felt no emotional eruption…. Saw an Asian guy in the distance popping into the post office but not sure if he was Muslim Sikh Hindu Christian or something else 🤔. No sign of a take over …. No sign of Islam today in my part of Essex …. I’ll update you and let you know if anything changes …. Possibly will be a few Muslims in the gym - I’ll let you know if they pray on the floor or try to convert me near the leg press machine.

@visegrad24 Since you asked. 1840s-60s: Irish "navvies" built Britain's railways, canals, and roads. Thousands died doing it. 1948-1971: Caribbean migrants rebuilt the NHS and transport system.

Paul Nowak: “A coked up street thug like Tommy Robinson. A tax avoider like Richard Tice. A grifter like Nigel Farage.” Migrant families built this country. They just exploit it. Tax the billionaires. Fund the NHS. Unite against hate. That’s how we win. ✊

If you drive an EV or you’re thinking about it, @OctopusEnergy has just lowered their prices even further. It’s going from ridiculously cheap to barbarically cheap to charge using an overnight tariff. This is effectively 1-1.5p a mile. With spiralling fuel costs there’s never been a better time. For us vs a diesel, travelling 50k annually, we will save £6,500 a year in fuel alone.

@HullTeslaModel3 @Eddystone506 We had our system installed at the beginning of 2024. If you count the savings in petrol and diesel from our 2 electric cars in the equation we are 50% into our roi. Electricity including standing charges was £192 last year, so driving 20k miles costs us <1p/mile.

@Eddystone506 Every time I think about it, I do the self same calculations, and I come up with the same answer, it would take well over 8 years to recoup the install cost. Cannot make it make financial sense. And we're heavy users, almost 12,000kWh per annum.
