“Sorry the U.S. is closed. The rest of us here will be detained” …. Seems to be the message these days.

Ahhh …. Members of Congress are shielded by the “Speech or Debate Clause,” Article 1 Section 1 Clause 1. A cornerstone of American liberty. When they stand on the floor of the House or Senate, when they vote, speak, or debate, they do so without fear of arrest or retaliation—a protection designed to keep the engine of democracy running, unshackled by outside pressures. This is not a loophole. It is a sacred guarantee: the law cannot silence lawmakers for doing their jobs. Yet this protection is carefully balanced—it covers only legislative acts, not crimes committed outside the halls of Congress. It exists so that the people’s representatives can speak boldly, challenge power, and fight for the nation without hesitation. In essence, it is a reminder that democracy demands courage, and courage demands protection.

This is horrible and will lead to blatant discrimination and real harm to children. To all trans youth: you are not alone, you are loved, and we won’t stop fighting for you.
