@willabeewallabe @TatyanaB8787 @rabbriansamuel The Jerusalem Church first led by James the Just, Apostles and thousands of Jewish believers zealous for the law were a sect in second Temple Judaism. Paul is called by Jewish leaders the ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes about 19 years after the term “Christian” was used.

@TatyanaB8787 @rabbriansamuel Jewish-Christians didnt remain Jewish. They built a church stepping away from Judaism. So essentially anyone coming into that church has not got a Jewish education. Now you say you are Jewish without trying to understand people whove kept the practice to their ability

I am not a self-proclaimed Messianic Rabbi. In fact, I never sought out that ordination. My own Messianic Rabbi ordained me through the laying on of hands. Unexpectedly I might add. Subsequently, I received formal ordination (smicha) through the International Alliance Of Messianic Congregations and Synagogues. I don't claim to be a Yeshiva U grad. And I don't claim to have the qualifications to lead a traditional Jewish synagogue. I am an ordained "Messianic Jewish Rabbi", serving my local community in Rhode Island. I'm there every Shabbat, and if you're ever in my area, come visit to meet me in person and for a worship experience you'll never forget.

A rabbi is not someone who decided to call himself one. Semicha is a chain of ordination that traces back to Moshe placing his hands on Yehoshua. You don't give that to yourself. It is received — or it doesn't exist. ✡️

@MeniEvenIsrael @rabbriansamuel It’s contradictory within a Rabbinic framework. But Jewish history included multiple sects with differing beliefs. So the question is whether one definition is the only valid one.

@rabbriansamuel Sadly, anyone today can claim any title they choose. However, the term “messianic rabbi” is inherently contradictory. One either represents the Jewish faith or Christianity; attempting to do both undermines the integrity of each.

@JacobNaw1 @rabbriansamuel That’s how Rabbinic Judaism defines its boundaries. But historically, Judaism has not been a single uniform stream. So the issue isn’t just recognition, but how we understand the diversity that already existed.

There is no such thing as a “Messianic Jewish Rabbi” in Judaism. You are describing a Christian minister using Jewish language and symbols. You admit it yourself: you do not claim to lead a traditional Jewish synagogue, you are not speaking from traditional Jewish ordination, and your authority comes from a Messianic institution built around belief in Jesus. That is exactly the distinction. In Judaism, once you make Jesus the Messiah, divine, or the basis of salvation, you have left Judaism and entered Christianity, even if you keep Hebrew terms, Shabbat language, or synagogue style. And this does not prove continuity with Judaism. It proves Christianity presented in Jewish form.

@nafg613 @nnahle The classical semikhah ended with the Sanhedrin, and even in the Second Temple period there were multiple Jewish groups. So the question of authority isn’t as simple as a single continuous line from then to now.

Jesus returns to Jerusalem under attack to defend Israel (Zech 14:1-6). He doesn't return for an antisemitic bride.

@Cub2104 @rabbriansamuel That interpretation is later with Rashi. Before Rashi it was mixed but the dominant view was individual often Messiah.

@rabbriansamuel Rabbi, how do you reconcile Isaiah 53. My Jewish friend said the suffering servant is not Jesus but the Jewish people as a whole. He says there are more verses to give proof

There's a difference between: 1. Keeping God's laws to earn your salvation And 2. Keeping them because you desire to live according to God's standard of righteousness. The first is an affront to the cross. The second demonstrates the fruit of salvation.
