It's ironic how housing and transportation are the definitive "kitchen table" issues, yet they're regularly treated like niche, fringe issues. It's unusual to find a state or local candidate who even has a plan to lower overall housing costs or shorten commutes.

@jake_gotta @maxdubler Yeah, I agree. That does look far. better. But the stone's been quarried out and is prohibitively expensive now; the stairs violate ADA; and there are few places where you can afford to build relatively low density like this and still be allowed to do it under zoning codes.

The LAPD body cam footage is sickening. Takar Smith, Keenan Anderson & Oscar Leon Sanchez should be alive today. Anderson was repeatedly tased while crying for help. "Please don't do this, sir. Please. Please." "They're trying to kill me." "They're trying to George Floyd me."

And to be clear, it's as much (if not more!) a problem with public agencies as with private lenders and investors.

Our obsession with 'the house never loses' is an underrated cause of our capitalist system's wild failure to allocate capital well. We value tiny, improbable, hypothetical risks over ongoing tangible harm. We do this on every loan or investment. Insidious.
