Teacher: I feel so exhausted all the time. Central Office: Have you tried yoga or running or meditation. Let’s stop telling teachers to do yoga and meditate (UNLESS that’s what they want and choose to do). Instead, let’s advocate for making teaching a sustainable career!

@moodyangela @dockevinmcleod It would be interesting to know how many good quality pre-med students are available. If students applying don’t have the necessary smarts, drive, money, time, personality to be competent doctors, fast-tracking alone won’t solve that gap.

“Hello. Is this the Dean of UBC medicine?” “Yes it is. How can I help you?” “This is the minister of health. I know for 30 plus years under multiple governments as a province we haven’t been training enough doctors given our population growth. It’s become particularly bad the last few years. We need to change this now.” “Well that’s not so easy. It takes 4 years of medical school and then 2 to 7 years of residency. Your government already announced some increases to medical training. And you announced Simon Fraser medical school is starting in 2026. Those grads will be ready come 2032 to 2035.” “We struggle to find patients adequate care now. We can’t staff ERs. Is there any way we could speed this up?” “There are many Canadians who grew up in communities here who have gone to other countries to do medical school because we didn’t have adequate training spaces. Places like Australia that have very high quality equivalent training. They want to come back but can’t because there are not enough residency spaces.” “So if they came back the time line would be accelerated by 4 years?” “Exactly. It costs around $100k per residency position. We could try to target critical areas like ER docs, anesthesiologists, family docs first. If we really put all hands on deck we could likely boost positions by 10% for July 2024 then another 15% for July 2025.” “Let’s get this done. How do we know they will stay at the end of training?” “Most positions for those coming back to Canada have an attached return of service. We fund the last part of their training and they in exchange work in a community with need for a period of time.” “I sure wish we’d had this conversation sooner. There will be some bumps in the road to make this happen but let’s get this done.”

@LisbonMile @Teachers__Unite Could we please not devalue one group and the hard work they do while trying to promote another? It pits us against each other and that’s not where we need to be.

A new labourer with LiUNA Local 183 makes $2260/wk while a new TDSB teacher makes $1080/wk. After upgrading to A4 and reaching the top of the grid, a teacher will still make less. It isn't hard to see why there's an issue with teacher recruitment! #onted #etfo #osstf #oecta #aefo

@ZainR @Garnet_2203 “Schools” in Ontario do teach about the responsibilities of levels government. Both my kids, now 20 & 17, learned about it somewhere between Gr. 4 and 7 and again in Grade 10.

@Garnet_2203 Schools need to teach more on civics and help kids understand the different levels of government and what they do so we don't get people like this.

@Teachers__Unite @Sflecce How about more front line workers to work directly with students and fewer people who have to justify their jobs by making up work for front line workers to do so everyone can check a box, fill in a report and make it seem like change is happening?

So @Sflecce's big plan for literacy and numeracy involves creating new "coaching" positions. Surely this will involve removing current classroom teachers to fill these new roles. Where will the replacement teachers come from or will class sizes have to increase? #onted

@brandok991 @maritstiles All public sector workers need to read Bill 124 & see that it applies for 3 years depending on when contracts expire. Ed workers have already had their max 1% incr as our contracts were among the first to expire in 2019. We all need to stick together, not turn on each other.

@maritstiles All the other public sector bargaining units were forced to swallow the max 1% allowable increase from bill 124. If they offer the teachers more after telling nurses and public sector workers no… it won’t be disruptions from teachers they’ll need to deal with

I'm sorry but if you actually appreciate the sacrifices that Ontario's nurses made during COVID, you will NOT vote for a party that has shown time & time again, even while in power during COVID, that they don’t care about nurses. You just won't. #onpoli

Canada is 1/10th the size of USA If the US has had 900K Covid deaths it stands to reason that we should have had 90K deaths - Sadly, we've lost 34K. - So it's possible there are 56K Canadians still alive because most of us did what we had to do Maybe you know one of them

@fitz_meagan Sometimes when the MOE “disappears” it is so they can be replaced and we will presumably forget everything they have done before the next election rolls around. After all, the MOE is just a voice for the party or the premier.

CBC has made multiple interview requests with Lecce's office since Dec. 30 and he hasn't been available. He did do an interview with CP24 on Dec. 31. We requested an interview again this morning. Hopefully we will hear from him soon. I know a lot of parents/teachers would like to
